Slightly opaque chestnut brown with no head or bubbles, still as !
Nose of alcohol, peat, dark berry fruits, wood tones.
Tastes herbal, medicinal, smoked bacon, sweet caramelised sugar, dark caramel, woody, smoke.
Full bodied, no carbonation, smooth, rich, complex, boozy!
UPDATED: JUL 24, 2016 2008 bottle. My god this is something special. Has aged wonderfully. Lightly smokey with complex malts and a light smoldering tea leaf finish. Lots of layers and extremely smooth on the palate. Class in a bottle. eduardovl (1430) - SWITZERLAND - OCT 14, 2014
500ml bottle bought at Il Regno di Gambrinus, Treviso. Poured in a wine chalice.
A: First of all, it comes in a beautiful black box and an also beautiful bottle with a dark gray label written Xfume. Pure classy. Baladin trademark. The beer, pours a dark deep amber nutty color with absolutely no head. Very few bubbles could be seen
S: The smell is a must in this beer. Simply great. Complex. First impression was a Port Wine. Barrel, dark fruits, plums, grapes and dates. And then you can also feel some sugary, some smoke, some malts and some alcohol. Really too much for a beer
T: Complex as the nose. Very fruity and liquorice, quite sweet too. Again, reminds a Port Wine. The woody taste of barrel and the hints of smoke gives this beer a unique character. Amazing. The caramel malt backbone reminded me that I was drinking a beer :). Well, difficult to describe it. Additionally, I would mention some earthiness and some oxidation in the taste...
M: The heaviest beer I’ve ever had. It’s very creamy and molasses. Just like a liquor. No carbonation. Very soft despite the high ABV. Very sweet too which compromises a bit the drinkability

Poured from bottle obtained in Indianapolis. Aroma is dark fruits, caramel, and booze. Appearance is a deep redish amber with absolutely no head. Taste is sweet sugar, prunes, caramel, some vanilla, booze and some smoke. Palate is thick syrup like with a slight burn in the back of the throat. Poured from a bottle purchased in Indiana for @$54 into a snifter reddish brown-no head.
Aroma is caramelized dark fruits in booze. Slight smoke but quite subtle.
Flavor is exquisite. Whiskey fruited love. Thinking the deepest richest caramelized brew then infused with tea. So get the tea in the finish and it works wonderfully!

Courtesy of Kraddel. 2006 Vintage. Respectable sample from a 500 ml. bottle. Pours a deep red copper amber with no head & no carbonation as expected. Taste is best possible oxidation notes, sherry walnuts, nicely warming, rich caramel, thick rich sweet malts, brown sugar, hazelnut, toffee, some port, not really picking up on Lapsang Souchong (maybe vanished with age?). Taste is quite sweet porn, sherry, hazelnut, walnut, vanilla, brown sugar, toffee, best possible oxidation overall, vanilla, toffee, maple syrup, faint liquorish, dark fruits, touch sweet oily nature that could be interpreted as Lapsang Souchong maybe but I am really trying here. Not really getting the tea unfortunately but otherwise great. Faintly oily, rich and thick but not heavy, thinned out by oxidation but doesn’t taste thin at all. Lovely, would have probably preferred this one fresh in order to get some of that tea.

50cl bottle. It pours a deep copper / brownish colour with no real head to speak of. Aroma is sweet with peat notes, but not overwhelming at all. Maple syrup and dark fruits. Taste is still sweet with some peaty notes in the end. Vanilla, leather and tobacco, alongside with dark fruits and raisins. Silky body with no carbonation. Overall, the smoke is much less aggressive than in the Islay whiskey version and I think it perfectly complements the beer here. Delicious.. IPA89 (7) - - JUN 28, 2013 does not count

18/05/2011 Open Baladin Roma (2006 vintage bottle). Bevuta con Pippi in teku da 10cl. Ambrata intensa, lievemente torbida, con note ramate, completamente ossidata, schiuma assente. Aroma intenso e caldo di frutta, con note alcoliche e un affumicato abbastanza evidente. In bocca è fruttata, caramellata, dolce, con un finale sorprendente che presenta note affumicate intense e persistenti. Corpo pieno, consistenza liquorosa. Straordinariamente complessa!
