Dark brown pour with small beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, cocoa, peppers and chocolate. Taste of roasted malts, unsweetened chocolate, hint of coffee, some earthiness, charcoal, and a chili pepper hotness on the finish, also powdered cocoa on the finish. Medium bodied, nice carbonation, a little too spicy on the finish for me. papajohn (1250) - San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA - JUN 25, 2011
On tap at BP Old Grove: Dark brown with ruby highlights and a light brown fading head. Aroma is smokey with a hint of cocoa powder. Flavor has some dark chocolate followed quickly by a smokey pepper burn, a hint of coffee finishing with a light coffee bitterness and lingering heat on the back of the tongue. Pallate is light to medium and velvety with soft carbonation. JoeTheYounger (1183) - Lake Arrowhead, California, USA - MAY 7, 2011
On draft at bruery provisions. Reddish copper brown with tan head. Aroma is roasty and spicy. Taste is similar with nice sharp smoothness. Good stuff and not too spicy with a lil smoke. krumbum (1109) - truckee, California, USA - MAR 8, 2014
Deep dark chestnut brown slight visibility but unable to see thorough. Smells of nut and pepper. Spice that slowly grows over a walnut hazelnut base. Warming. Chalsk (1104) - North Caldwell, New Jersey, USA - MAR 8, 2013
On tap at Gingerman. Seriously WTF. I love Ballast Point but this is just drinking pepper sauce with a hint of cocoa. This is an extreme beer that is just not for me or 99 percent of beer drinkers. From a craft standpoint I don’t understand it.

Draft. Deep black, thick and intimidating. The thin, half-finger head is tan and dense. Smoky mole sauce in the nose. Chipotle, barbacoa, toast, toasted oats. The flavor delivers moderate smoky pepper heat, great chipotle flavor and spice. A smash of orange peel as well, balancing dark and bitter cocoa. Some sharp pepper notes come off like jalapeño juice. Smooth medium body, velvety, soft as down. Good stuff. rob6239 (677) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 14, 2013
On tap takeover at Cole’s in Buffalo. Dark pour with slight head only. Aroma is spicy. Taste is crazy hot and doesn’t go away quickly. The heat burns and lingers but is oddly appealing. Berard (639) - Salem, New Hampshire, USA - NOV 1, 2013
Draft. Pours nearly black with creme colored head that dissipates. Coffee aroma with mild carbonation. Coffee flavors with chipotle spice on the tongue.
