Tap @ Ballast Point in Little Italy... Poured deep, opaque, dark brown with a thin, light tan head. Aroma of smokey chipotle and cocoa reminiscent of a chipotle hot sauce or a mole’ sauce. Chipotle and citrus up front with some sweetness and cocoa coming in. Smoked peppers was quite evident here. Chipotle heat coming in and lingering in the finish. bmsulliv (219) - - NOV 29, 2013

Sample at Bainbridge, good amount for this beer. Pours amber brown with creamy medium beige head, nice sporadic lacing. Aromas of peppers, orange slice, wood, and dark roast. Flavor is lots of wet wood and garage funk up front then the heat comes on hard from the chipotle. Smaller notes of chocolate chalk and roast malt. Dries the back of the throat out and burns the chest. Thitttt, this here some spicy asthhh thittt yo. Medium to fuller body. Not bad but way too much fire to drink in qty.

Pour a dark brown-black with a small tan head with some lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts, caco, and some light earthy pepper notes. Taste is roasted malts, baker coco, smokey-earthy peppers, some coffee notes, and some light orange notes. Has a medium body with a slighty watery mouthfeel and a semi dry, medium, spicy finish. On tap at blue monk. Snifter,dark brown with a big light brown head. Smells smokey with some roasted malts and vegetal properties. Taste is smokey and bit chocolatey, followed up by big chipotle and lots of spice. First actual spicey beer. Impressive, but the heat kind of takes over. Just about black in color with an off-white head. Nose is moderately spicy with a nice earthy and somewhat smokey pepper note. Some decent chocolate, mild citrus, and light malt sweetness. Roasted malt and a touch of coffee. Somewhat hot on the front end of the palate. Nice citrus and chocolate notes with quite a lot of chipotle. Smoke, earth, and a building heat that finishes quite strong. Maybe some roasted malt character in there.
