Why? The chipotle actually burns a little bit. It really brings the beer down. The cocoa is there but not enough to cover the pepper. Didn't taste the orange.

Draft at a tasting event. From notes. Good, but too much spice. Didn’t get much of the cocoa or orange peel, just habanero.

Tap @ Ballast Point in Little Italy... Poured deep, opaque, dark brown with a thin, light tan head. Aroma of smokey chipotle and cocoa reminiscent of a chipotle hot sauce or a mole’ sauce. Chipotle and citrus up front with some sweetness and cocoa coming in. Smoked peppers was quite evident here. Chipotle heat coming in and lingering in the finish.

Not bad but overpowering thick and tons of chili kick in the back of the throat. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured a warm dark color with slightly woody odor. Delightful peppery tingle from the tongue all the way down.

Sample at Bainbridge, good amount for this beer. Pours amber brown with creamy medium beige head, nice sporadic lacing. Aromas of peppers, orange slice, wood, and dark roast. Flavor is lots of wet wood and garage funk up front then the heat comes on hard from the chipotle. Smaller notes of chocolate chalk and roast malt. Dries the back of the throat out and burns the chest. Thitttt, this here some spicy asthhh thittt yo. Medium to fuller body. Not bad but way too much fire to drink in qty.

Tap @ brewery. Pours black with a small grey head. Aroma is nice toasted malty a bit sweet ashy. Flavor is way too hot peppery, just kills everythng else.

Draft at blue monk. Black pour. Tons of heat in nose and flavor. Chipotle is huge, roast is there but really overpowered by heat. One sip is probably enough. Flavorful if chipotle is your thing. Would make killer BBQ sauce

Pour a dark brown-black with a small tan head with some lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts, caco, and some light earthy pepper notes. Taste is roasted malts, baker coco, smokey-earthy peppers, some coffee notes, and some light orange notes. Has a medium body with a slighty watery mouthfeel and a semi dry, medium, spicy finish. Overall, another interesting and pretty tasty pepper beer from Ballast Point.

On tap at blue monk. Snifter, dark brown with a big light brown head. Smells smokey with some roasted malts and vegetal properties. Taste is smokey and bit chocolatey, followed up by big chipotle and lots of spice. First actual spicey beer. Impressive, but the heat kind of takes over. Kind of medium mouthfeel.
