COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Is it right? Seems a bit excessive really. But we did it anyway, because we can. We have aged our Tongue Buckler Imperial Red Ale in bourbon barrels and it is ready to drink. Yep, that 10% ABV monstrosity has been, as they say, kicked up a notch. It was a quick stay in the barrel. We didnít want the beer to lose all of itís hallmark hoppiness. And after only a couple of months, a lot remains. Flavors of vanilla and oak now intertwine with the malty sweetness and are countered by a pronounced hop bitterness. What was complex is now impossible to unravel. It really has to be tasted to be understood.

Tap at CK Diggs. Pours murky copper brown, tan head. Aroma is lots of caramel, toffee, malt, bourbon, booze. Flavor is bourbon heavy, caramel vanilla, toffee, really pronounced bitter bite, almost astringent. Flavor is nice up front, not the best finish. But still enjoyable. Really nice nose.

Sample at the Ballast Point tasting room in Temecula. The beer pours a deep reddish-brown color with a medium thin off-white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, malt and vanilla. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, vanilla and caramel malt. Some hops in the background. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Draft. Murky. Almost no head. Medium body. Barrel character integrated nicely. A good level of sweetness. Beautiful dark fruit. Nice dark maltiness underneath. Warm. Some booziness. Semi-dry woody finish. Good

Keg at BP Little Italy, 13/11/14. Rich amber with reddish hues topped with a moderate beige swirl and edgeing. Nose is bourbon, oak, caramel, light spice, dark fruit rinds, orchard tones, toffee apple. Taste comprises toasted brown sugar, candied fruit peel, toffee, sweet licks, subtle bourbon oak soak splash dash. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light warming alochol in the close. Solid enough BA strong, bitter edge kicks in at the close which tempers the sweetness well.

Draft. Red pour, it has picked up some earthy spice notes in the barrel, a hint more toasted malt bitter, hops are pretty vegetale and earthy at this point.

Canít say this is better than the "regular" Tongue Buckler,. The hops are such that they still come through, though the barrel is strong as well. Nice sipper, a must for any big fans of BA beers.

Poured from a bottle. Not much head. Deep red color. Smell of hops hits you instantly. Deep malty flavor up front followed by a punch of west coast hops.

Pours a reddish brown thin tan head with deccent lacing. Aroma is of toasted sweet malts, stone fruits, woody bourbon, vanilla, and some molasses. Taste is rally smooth and as a very nice combination of smooth bourbon and nice fruit notes. Has a medium body with a slighty creamy mouthfeel and a semi dry, semi bitter finish. Overall, a very mellowed out version of tounge buckler that is very tasty and drinkable compared to the orginal.
