Bottle, thanks to smokepot! Pours murky brown, no real head to speak of, spotty lacing. Nose is big barrel; allspice, pepper, fruit, tobacco, oak, very nice. Flavours are super-bourbon, some sour-mash sourness with fruit, vanilla, and tobacco. A quite different take on Barrel-aged barleywines, one of the prettier noses I have smelt on a barleywine as well. daknole (11402) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - MAR 3, 2011
Reddish and quite cloudy pour. Tart wine, bourbon, honey, cactus fruit aroma. Flavor is sweet/tart, grapes, light bitterness, oak. tokyogoat (1503) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 7, 2010
A decent offering, well worth the money and i’d definitely get it again. Just didn’t knock my socks off. I liked this one a little less than the straight syrah, but it was more complex and a little less rough. just didnt have the fruitiness that the syrah barrel had picked up. michael-pollack (4959) - King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 11, 2010
Draught at TJ’s: Aroma of malt, diacetyl, ammonia, alcohol, brown sugar, light molasses, oak, vanilla, and bourbon. Poured amber in color with a large, creamy, dense, tan head that lasted throughout. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of alcohol, malt, oak, vanilla, and bourbon. Medium body. Average texture. Soft to average carbonation. Sweet, malt, bourbon and oak finish. 9%ABV is present in the aroma, flavor, and finish. Some alcohol burn. Needs time to cool down. BeerBunker (966) - Burbank, Illinois, USA - JUN 11, 2010
Hand bottle thanks to riversideAK. Held up perfectly. Pours a murky, rusty brown color with a tan head. Aroma is of malt, dark fruit, bourbon, chocolate, smoke, and vanilla. Taste has very sharp malt taste, if that makes any sense. Lots of dark fruit, smoke, and chocolate. All the flavors are soaked in bourbon. As it warms, some wine characteristics start to come through. There are flavors or funk and grapes. There is even some apple that starts to come through. Not very boozy, but definitely a sipper for me. Damn, that was good.

Growler; thanks to Alex for hooking this up!! Dense brown with trace tan head; vanilla cookies, red wine, bourbon and prunes; chocolate with a slight zing from the red wine; tons of vanilla, sugar, dried malt and brown sugar; thinnish body with stale malt and vanilla; pretty boozy overall and texture is a little thin for my liking in a barleywine, but the flavor more than makes up for it; oaky with rich toffee, faint bitterness and sweetness from the wine; pretty yummy stuff Ibrew2or3 (8814) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - MAY 29, 2010
Frikin’ Alex scores a growler of this, damn. Thanks buddy. Pours mahogany with tan head. The aroma is oak then dry oak and then moving toward bourbon, some vanilla, and a light amount of dark fruitiness, caramel and then more oak along with a touch of wine. The taste is sweet with dark fruity goodness, aged oak, vanilla and then some wine and caramel notes mixed together. A growing oak note is noticed off in the background as it approaches the finish. Yummy stuff. beersearcher (2383) - Glendale, California, USA - MAY 19, 2010
Big rum aroma coming off of this one. No evidence of Syrah that I can find. All the hallmarks of a big barleywine. A real sipper. Not hop heavy at all. Alcohol a large presence. JohnnyJ (5569) - San Diego, California, USA - APR 20, 2010
On tap at Stone Oakquinox 2010. Not sure if this is the correct barrel aged version, but it did have bourbon notes, so I think this is correct. Pours a dark brown amber. Sweet malt, dried fruit, oak, bourbon, caramel, and earthiness. Pretty good, although I’m not a huge fan of three sheets. riversideAK (6265) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - APR 16, 2010
Wonderful nose full of jammy syrah, brown sugar, bourbon vanilla, underlying dark fruity notes. Solid sweet barleywine underneath. Dark auburn pour, creamy beige head. Awesome red hues. Amazing notes of syrah and bourbon barrel. Jam, brown sugar, vanilla, wood. Dark sweet fruity notes. Vanilla rounds out the finish. Solidly carbonated. Sweet but very well balanced as some solid hop bitterness comes through. A really amazing beer all the way through. Love the balance that the syrah/bourbon creates. Thanks Torry. I owe you man!
