Growler, thanks Alex and Torry! Very dar brown, almost black, amber tinted with dark tan big head. Rich nose!...tobacco toffee, brown sugar, vanilla, juicy syrah, dried plums, rasins. Medium mothfeel, light for style, lively almost prickley carbonation. Cola, bourbon an syrah is all super present...let me try and dig into it. Pepper and tobacco, plum, vanilla extract, cardboard bitter ending. With more body, this would be even higher. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - APR 16, 2010
growler, thanks alex! pours nearly black with garnet edges. dense and creamy tan head with plenty of lace and good retention. enormoud rich tart and tannic red wine nose with sharp bourbon and vanilla mixed in. creamy medium body, approaching a little tackiness and viscosity. dates, figs, red wine grapes, grape skins, toffee, treacle, raisins, and figs on the mid palate. thick, complex, sweet, and interesting. long sticky sweet finish. beautifully harmonious and integrated. nickd717 (4818) - San Francisco, California, USA - FEB 21, 2010
On tap at Rose & Crown, served in a snifter. Pours dark reddish-brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, brown sugar, wood, bourbon, and red wine. A little tartness even. Flavor has quite a bit of syrah character, as well as some bourbon. Also caramel, toffee, mild roast, and a little booze. Medium-full body with low carbonation. Very tannic, and even a little astringent. Not terribly boozy, although you can feel the ABV. Drinkability is pretty good. A very solid beer overall, really interesting. kmweaver (3207) - Petaluma, California, USA - FEB 20, 2010
Draft @ Father’s Office (Santa Monica). Pours a very dark, murky cola-brown color; thin light-tan head with solid, fine-bubbled lacing. Pleasant amounts of red fruits, very light cardboard, caramel, and dried dark fruits; hints of whiskey; creamy. Full body: loads of viscous, dense red wine notes, red fruits (strawberries, esp.), and creamy bourbon / toasty barrel notes; lively cola and a very creamy presence in the mouth; lightly warming alcohol; plenty of deep, dried dark fruits. Lovely beer, with lasting dark fruits, red fruits, sweet caramel notes; reasonably sweet. nbutler11 (1267) - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - FEB 8, 2010
On tap at Beachwood with ajm -- chin chin. Pours a dark plum color with a trim brown head. Smells awesome. Brimming with honey and bourbon. Tastes malty with further notes of honey, vanilla, juicy plums, and brown sugar. Bakers cocoa and raisin are very apparent once this one warms up. Great beer.

Tao at Beachwood BBQ. Eighth rating of the beer. Nose is big and round with dull berry, sweet brown malt and red wine. Color is a dull, clearly aged brownish red, like a molding strawberry. Flavor is very tannic, with sweet malts and light oxidation peeping through. I think the wine overpowered, because this didn’t taste especially like a Barley Wine. I hope 3 Sheets is the next Robust Series bottling... Lagunitasfan (1323) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 30, 2010
Growler from the brewery. Hazy with a creamy head. Nose is light brown sugar, malt, and alcohol. Lightly spicy. Taste is a mouthfull. Complex. Sharp and sweet and spicy all at once. This is a sipper, and it warms a body as it goes. As the glass warms, the flavor smooths. Nice brew. JoeTheYounger (1183) - Lake Arrowhead, California, USA - JAN 17, 2010
Poured a cloudy brownish color with red tint, not too much head. Aroma was really nice with lots of oak, booze and dry fruits. Taste was sweet, bourbon, oak, dark fruits, with the wine really mellowing out the bourbon taste compared to most BA beers. Medium nice pallet. Overall very very good. papajohn (1250) - San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA - JAN 16, 2010
UPDATED: FEB 10, 2010 Pint glass on tap at the Old Grove brewery: Dark amber brown with a small (bar pour) light tan head. Aroma is light and sweet with dark fruit, oak and bourbon. Flavor starts malty and sweet with dark fruit, some bourbon, oak and a hint of cocoa. The hops have mellowed into a light citrus finish. Medium body is smooth with modest carbonation. mspindler (489) - Alta Loma, California, USA - JAN 14, 2010
