Aroma is of vanilla from the barrel. Dark fruits. Flavor also shoes the complexity of barrel aging. Really nice beer! Burps nice also and paired well with the carnias Mac and cheese. Chocolate notes as well. nbutler11 (1267) - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - FEB 8, 2010
On tap at Beachwood with ajm -- chin chin. Pours a dark plum color with a trim brown head. Smells awesome. Brimming with honey and bourbon. Tastes malty with further notes of honey, vanilla, juicy plums, and brown sugar. Bakers cocoa and raisin are very apparent once this one warms up. Great beer. UPDATED: MAR 26, 2010 Tap @ the Linda Vista location. Pours a deep non translucent copper color with a creamy beige head that left nice lacing. Nice nose of bourbon, oak, hint of red wine, and a ton hop caramel and toffee with some citrusy hops still present. Flavor was full of bourbon, oak and toffee while still remaining fairly hoppy and bitter, damn tasty stuff. mspindler (489) - Alta Loma, California, USA - JAN 14, 2010

O: I thought it was a great barley wine really enjoyed the character that the wine barrel added to this beer, one of the best barleywines I have ever tasted would not hesitate to buy this if I was ever bottled, almost tasted like they blended the Barleywine with a Flanders red

Poured a cloudy brownish color with red tint, not too much head. Aroma was really nice with lots of oak, booze and dry fruits. Taste was sweet, bourbon, oak, dark fruits, with the wine really mellowing out the bourbon taste compared to most BA beers. Medium nice pallet. Overall very very good. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - APR 16, 2010
growler, thanks alex! pours nearly black with garnet edges. dense and creamy tan head with plenty of lace and good retention. enormoud rich tart and tannic red wine nose with sharp bourbon and vanilla mixed in. creamy medium body, approaching a little tackiness and viscosity. dates, figs, red wine grapes, grape skins, toffee, treacle, raisins, and figs on the mid palate. thick, complex, sweet, and interesting. long sticky sweet finish. beautifully harmonious and integrated. Aroma of chocolate, cherry cordial, and deep currant notes. Pours deep grey and red with a good film. Tastes amazing of tawny port, chocolate, and cherries. Slight coffee note towards the end. Brilliant and potent. riversideAK (6261) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - APR 16, 2010
Wonderful nose full of jammy syrah, brown sugar, bourbon vanilla, underlying dark fruity notes. Solid sweet barleywine underneath. Dark auburn pour, creamy beige head. Awesome red hues. Amazing notes of syrah and bourbon barrel. Jam, brown sugar, vanilla, wood. Dark sweet fruity notes. Vanilla rounds out the finish. Solidly carbonated. Sweet but very well balanced as some solid hop bitterness comes through. A really amazing beer all the way through. Love the balance that the syrah/bourbon creates. Thanks Torry. I owe you man! Hand bottle thanks to riversideAK. Held up perfectly. Pours a murky, rusty brown color with a tan head. Aroma is of malt, dark fruit, bourbon, chocolate, smoke, and vanilla. Taste has very sharp malt taste, if that makes any sense. Lots of dark fruit, smoke, and chocolate. All the flavors are soaked in bourbon. As it warms, some wine characteristics start to come through. There are flavors or funk and grapes. There is even some apple that starts to come through. Not very boozy, but definitely a sipper for me. Damn, that was good.
