I love guajillo so I had to try this. Tap Takeover for SF beer week at Original Gravity. Pours a darker amber color. First thing I noticed was the smell of the smoky, roasted, earthy guajillo peppers. Tasting revealed a mild (both in flavor and spice) that made this an interesting drink. Too spicy to be refreshing. On tap at the Old Grove Location. Pours with a clear copper hued body with a small tan head. Aromas are earthy, green and vegital with further notes of caramel and black pepper spice. Flavors are vegital, peppery, caramel, pencil shavings. Medium esters. Flavors are dominated by dried peppers. Lively bubbles, medium bodied. On tap at Home Brew Mart location: Aroma is mild and doesn’t smell any different than the original calico but does have a fresher scent of hops and that’s probably due to it being fresh from the draught. The flavor is bitter and somehow blander than I remember a regular bottle of calico but there is a nice malty balance while a minimal amount of the guajillio comes through.

Sample in the tasting room...it’s a funky slightly peppered amber...it’s more roasted than spicy, light body refreshing. Still has the malt and slight roast from the regular amber and it’s augmented heavily by the roasted pepper flavor.
