COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.

Strong grapefruit and tangerine nose, with a subtle pepper presence. Hazy amber, medium yellow head. Grapefruit, lemon, and a lot of pepper. Pine finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation, hot. Not quaffable, but a fantastic sipper.

Nice crisp copper and light bronzed body with a thinnish pale tan head. Aroma of fresh hops, pine, grass, fruit and a bunch of chiles. Medium-bodied; Big pine and citrus notes in the hops with a large malt presence and an immediate hit of the pungent peppers in here with a pleasant warmth and good balance by the hops and malt. Aftertaste shows a distinct amalgamation of flavours from sweet apricots to pungent grass and herbs of the hops to a little malt backbone and of course the ever-present chile. Overall, a very well balanced and well crafted beer that hits all the right angles without being gimmicky - this is a West Coast IPA with chiles and it works out better than you think it will! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle after a hockey game in Arlington, Virginia on 03-June-2015 - Thanks JP!

12oz bottle. I expected the heat to be mild, subdued. Nope, this is pretty hardcore. Filtered orange-tan body. Frothy white head. Interesting mix between cool citurs hops and fruity hot pepper aroma. A pretty awesome beer experience. The heat really lingers and stains your palate. Bold offering.

Bottle from Beer and Wine. Golden body. Nose is hoppy, spicy and some citrus. Taste is again very hoppy with citrus and spicier notes in the middle. Nice texture. Floral finish.

[email protected], gamla stan. Copper clear. Fruity pines, caramels on nose. Not that much bell pepper/chili just yet. Med bodied, nice soft bitter caramelly, and a good capsasin kick. Smooth nice, and for once, a well spiced chili beer. Habanero pretty clearly present in the flavour (sort of murky bell peppery, black pepper) as well. Ipa for chiliheads. I would venture this has a scoville of tabasco, so some tolerance is required for proper enjoyment.

Draft at DryHop. Orange with white head. Very spicy beer. Way more than I thought. Tasty tho if you can fight that off

Ick. I really dont like pepper beers Im finiding. This has a long-lasting spicy bite, that basically takes the greatness of this beer and ruins it for me.

12oz bottle of liquid heat. Poured a clear deep gold body with a smaller to average white creamy head. Aroma of habanero pepper, curry, Indian food, wet grains, bad bread, old citrus. Medium body, loads of heat, average carbonation. Flavor is more peppery than the aroma. I like, hot hot hot.

Picked up single 12-oz bottle from Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, MN. Pours a semi-clear golden orange colored brew with a smalled sized off-white head compared to the regular Sculpin that quickly dissipates. Aroma of light grapefruit, habanero peppers and caramel malt. Taste is medium bodied with habanero pepper presence that over-powers the IPA hoppiness. Finish is semi-dry with a spicy pepper palate that would make an interesting BBQ marinade. Tongue shock recovery time, about 3 minutes.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Tried a sampler glass full of this. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is a combination of habanero pepper and west coast hops, laid upon a malt backbone. Taste is spicy. The habanero does overpower the hops, but by just enough to make the beer interesting. This isnt something to repeat or even drink an entire glass of, but it is an interesting example of what can be done with the combination of beer and spice.
