Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.

12oz bottle from Craftshack. Pours a slightly hazy golden orange color with a small foamy white head. Aroma of sweet citrus, light on the habanero spice, lemon zest, and floral hops. Taste of grapefruit, lemon, pine, and a decent peppery habanero burn in the finish. Solid

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle stamped SC443-14055. It pours a bronze, amber color with a modest little head that fades to a ring but never goes away. The nose has a nice caramel malt and bitter hop character. Medium body. At first there is a caramel malt character but it does snot take long for the floral hop character to take over. Nice bitter finish. Quite good.

Bottle - Amber with a thin ring of white head. Nose is fruity with lots of onion, very dry malt with no pepper to speak of. Taste is bready malt a bit of grassiness and some sharpness. Next to no pepperiness, though theres a little heat on the finish. Thinnish with medium carbonation.

SWBF 2014. Pours peach with a lacy white head. Aromas of peach, honey, grapefruit, kiwi with some hints of a peppery tone. Quite similar to ordinary Sculpin. Tasting it also very much reminds of the usual Sculpin characteristics: fantastic tropical fruit tones - mango, peach, paricot, grapefruit - and that nice malty base to it. After swallowing it though - wow! What a kick! Quite fiery and burns not a little bit. Not too much though. Very well balanced and I quite like that habanero kick!

Draft at Mexican Food Factory Marlton. Pours out an attractive slightly more amber color than normal Sculpin with a nice white head. Aroma is of tropical fruits, citrus bitterness, and some light earthy/spicy chili pepper. Pepper is definitely subtle and maybe somewhat turns down the normal hop profile. Taste is where the peppers make their mark. Notes of tropical fruit and citrus hoppy bitterness, and then a spicy/earthy/fruity chili pepper (yes, the wonderful Habenero) comes into play. Luckily the spice is not over done, and despite the popular belief this pepper doesnt only pack a lot of heat, there is a lot of flavor in there too. The hops meld rather well with the pepper that initially only leaves a slight burn, but definitely stings your lips for minutes after your sip...and if eating spicy food can linger even longer. A great rendition to one of my favorite IPAs.

Keg at Brewdog Edinburgh. Pours almost clear amber. Nose is sweet fruits, green pepper. Taste is green pepper, sweet malts and then the chili builds up and its all about that. Quite, or I could say really, strong chili in a beer, overpowering the excellent ipa. I dont see the point of this. There are nice balanced chili beers, this is not one of those.

Cask at GBBF 2011. An amber coloured pour with a medium white head. Hoppy aroma. Tastes like an IPA with curry powder and chillis thrown in, this really did not work, I had to pour it away after a couple of sips. Quite horrid!

UPDATED: APR 1, 2015 Bottle: Thanks, Darsh. Toasted golden-amber with a very faint haze, mellow white head fades quickly. Aroma has lots of earthy hops, faint pine, florals, a touch of peppery spice, light honey, & some grapefruit. Not as spicy on the nose as Id expect. The flavor, though... WOW. Habanero jumps out like a tiger. Some grassy & earthy hops at first, but the pepper heat rushes in quickly. After that, all you can taste is spicy pepper. Maybe a hint of earthy-pine but the pepper reigns supreme, through & through. One dimensional once the peppers take over; then its CURTAINS, son.
