COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium to thick, well retained, off white head, with some lacing, over a clear, light amber (SRM 9) body.....nose is light cereal, heavy grapefruit, pine from the hops, mild habanero, balance to the hops......taste is light cereal, with hints of sweetness to start, with heavy grapefruit, pine, resin from the hops, becoming hot from the chile, finishing with hop bitterness, balanced.......mouth feel, medium body, slightly sticky, mild alcohol, carbonation high. As an S/H/V beer this is quite successful. The underlying beer is quite present and is well done. The chile comes in slightly in aroma, and then in flavors late enough to tell that the IPA was well done. The habanero then is utterly dominant with great heat, as one would expect from a 500,000 Scoville unit chile. The burn from an habanero is usually fairly short. BJCP 8/3/15/4/7

Draught. Clear golden, whitish in head. Fruity citrus and greenish vibes in aroma. Habanero burning mostly. Interesting though. On the right ocassion this works I would presume. Citrus and burning chili in aftertaste.

Bottle from Wine warehouse. Pours golden amber with Ace somewhat decent frothy beige head. Smells of citrus and light vegetation, I suppose that could be the pepper but it doesn't necessarily smell like pepper. Taste. Oh that made me catch my breath. Initial puckering followed by a deep breath and A lot of heat going down the throat. I am not a huge fan of spicy food because I like to taste the separate flavors in the my food and it's similar with this beer, but this is quite enjoyable in a completely different way.main flavor is the pepper, spicy, but there's also a hint of citrus peel that is mostly overshadowed by the heat of the pepper. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

4/18/2015 (bottle): I love Sculpin and Grapefruit Sculpin and the Habanero Sculpin is quite good, but the chili pepper really covers up all of the great hop flavors. This drinks like an good IPA with a hefty amount of jalapeno flavor and heat that comes in on top and grows with each sip. This reminds me a bit of spicy peach salsa. I like it, but it’s not a great chili beer. I’d much rather have a Sculpin or Grapefruit Sculpin and then a chili beer. This beer as a bit of a let down as it could have been an amazing thing; I think there is some room for improvement with it...

On tap at Happy Gnome. Pour is clear golden with a big white head and good lacing. Tropical fruity, somewhat earthy, lemony, light biscuit, some grass and dough in the aroma. Taste is somewhat sweet, a lot of earthiness, hints of grass and lemon with heat on the backend. Medium body with high carbonation. Solid pepper beer - not sure how much of this I could realistically drink though.

Excellent beer, tho I like the Grapefruit version more.This does have the very intriguing aroma with the fruity hop malt caramel thing. Flavor loses almost all of the fruit and gets fairly dry with mostly malty hop and a little capsicum taste. Body is great and the heat from the Habenero is just right. Good drinking brew.

Bottle from Stone in Asagaya. Pours a clear gold with a small white head. Aromas of passion fruit, mango and citrus with some light pepper. Starts out with some nice tropical fruit at the beginning, but then comes the rush of habanero pepper. There is some grapefruit in there as well but a long peppery finish that kills all the flavor in the original. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

Draught @ Ginger Man. Slightly cloudy rich yellow with small foamy off-white head, citrus peel aroma, low carbonation, smooth body, balanced hoppy flavor with hot habanero taste, medium hoppy finish, hot pepper aftertaste. Very micely balanced but hot beer!

Flaska. Troligtvis den mest svårbedömda öl jag någonsin råkat ut för. Doften är fruktig och lätt maltig och där anas mest en hetta, som sen ska komma ut totalt i smaken. Det är väldigt starkt, det går knappt att ta två klunkar i rad. Gillar man inte chilli så ska man definitivt låta den här vara. Jag gillar chilli. Och den är inte helt ensam, där finns en fruktighet och gräsighet som kommer fram allra först, innan chillin slår till totalt i eftersmaken. Vad som gör ölen så svårbedömd är att den å ena sidan är spännande och faktiskt rätt god. Å andra sidan är den svårdrucken. Det tar sin tid att dricka upp den, den är onekligen speciell och jag vet inte om jag känner så mycket egentligen för att dricka fler av den här. Men jag är mycket glad att ha fått prova den.
