Bottle. Aroma is sweet and hoppy with a hint of peppers that goes away after a few whiffs. Hazy Amber. Very strong hot pepper flavor the blends beautifully with the Luciousness of the sculpin IPA. Expertly and wonderfully done. ZPirate (1) - - APR 10, 2015 does not count
This beer is not for everyone but I happen to love it. It has a nice kick to it and burns a bit on the way down. Two or three of these are sufficient. If you don’t like the heat then the regular Sculpin is for you. I appreciate Ballast Point’s diversity and creativity. Keep up the good work Brewmasters!

Bottle. Bottled on: 05/06/15 (I think). A slightly hazy amber pour with a thick and creamy beige head. Lots of grapefruits, resiny pine, spicy chili peppers, zesty citrus rinds, and caramel feature in the aroma. Goes down relatively full-bodied. Caramel malts upfront in the taste. Grapefruits and zesty citrus rinds at the end. TONS and TONS of FRESH peppers provide a hot/spicy kick from start to finish. This beer packs more peppery burn than any other I’ve had. Soooo hot!! This brew has been like crack to me and my girlfriend. We’ve gone through case after case this summer. Even after months in the fridge, this bottle still packs a wallop of hot peppery goodness. tsd08460 (1132) - Marshall, Virginia, USA - DEC 30, 2015
Aroma: peppers, citrus, caramel, pine
Appearance: clear gold with a white head
Taste: hot peppers, medium sweetness, medium bitterness,
Palate: medium body, sticky, average carbonation, long finish,
My throat is on fire but I dig that. Delicious. Rusty (1547) - Mesa, Arizona, USA - SEP 17, 2011
Pours a golden color with a white head. Aroma is hops and malt and citrus with no hint of habanero. Up front sculpin is its aweslme self.and.then the burn comes. A perfect well integrated not too over.the.top burn. I don’t understand the bad ratings this beer is awesome.

Tap at Ballast Point. The beer pours to a dark amber glowing golden body with a white head. The aroma is simply 100% Sculpin with no peppers. The flavor is Sculpin, but it showcases the delicious flavor of the habanero pepper. I thought it had some heat, but not in that way that most of the spicy beers are (green peppers and hot). This beer was a marvelous rendition in that the pepper component came through as expected, rather than a nasty green pepper with heat. It actually blended quite well, and was a highlight of the evening! RhiannonMae (1) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - APR 17, 2014 does not count
Aroma: a little off. The aroma does nothing to speak of for this beer. But it doesn’t matter.
Beautiful rusty gold color seems serene. The taste is amazing- I know it’s an IPA, but the first on the palate smacks of a perfect pale ale, then, the habanero shows up to the party, makes her presence known without a word, as fiery women do. She is anything but serene. Here is a beer who knows who she is. Can be hard to find- but so worth it. After the pale ale wakes up the hoppiness, the heat blooms perfectly on the palate. Spicy, and delicious. I stalk my favorite pubs for this, and crave it when it’s not available. You will drink it, love it, and want more. slowrunner77 (11917) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 16, 2014
UPDATED: NOV 1, 2016 "Wow. Ballast does it again. One of my very favorite IPAs spiced up enough to notice, but not so much it takes away ANYTHING from the hoppy tropical goodness that is Sculpin. Light peppers on the nose, a little more in the flavor. Sublime!!" anderson01 (356) - Spirit Lake, Idaho, USA - MAR 2, 2015
Clear golden appearance with a bubbly white head that reduces rather quickly. Okay lacing. Definite pepper aroma. There is a tad of citrusy hops sneaking out of the aroma. Lively carbonation. Definitely puts a burn at the back of the throat. Taste of fresh peppers. The bottle says may vary in heat this one could have been a little spicier but an awesome beer. Ballast point took a chance on a spicy beer and suceeded with flying colors. BeauNose (1) - Virginia, USA - FEB 8, 2016 does not count
Flavor so balanced that it’s damn near unbelievable. Piney/ citrusy bouquet. Looks the way an ale should; crisp, clear, and copper. Exceptional drinkability with just the right amount of heat. Absolutely love it.
