Ballast 13th anny, this was my fav of all the 3 "hout" sours that were on draft. Super currant flavors, some dusty coco, sourness was solid. More grip and complexity than the other 2. Not that traditional for a sour I guess. Weird murky color but the flavors were outstanding. On-tap at PP C’Bad. Labeled Black Hout. Pours murky dark brown with dark purple highlights, medium sized offwhite head that leaves good lace. Smells vinegary and sweet with some light fruit notes. On tap at Pizza Port’s Barrel Blast 2010: Purple color, thin head. Aroma of balsamic vinegarette, funky cheese, and oak. Taste of sour berries, vinegar, hops, and iron. Draft @ Johnny Browns. Pours cola brown with a creamy off white head that left some great lacing. Interesting notes of butterscotch, currants and other berry fruits, medium sour. A damn fine beer, I would drink it until my liver gave way. Nothing offensive at all, just beer bliss. Second time having htis beer, it seems to be getting much better with age. the porter is shining through now, the fruit is still there, and the guezy sourness is only getting stronger. Went from a B to an A over 6 months, i am very impressed.

Hazy mahogany with a medium beige head. Sweet and sour aroma with roasted malt, caramel, lacto and black currants. Flavour was sour and dry with roasted malt, caramel, black currants, lacto, wood and acetone. Finished dry and burning sour. Lovely stuff. Vinous black currant melodies serenade the tastebuds before raisins and citrusy tartness elevate this Sour Ale’s aftertaste.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the orange-hued brown.
-The smooth carbonation and fruity tartness make for easy drinking.
-The raisin-y malts underneath are a perfect match with the black currants and lactic bacteria.
-The red wine flavours within are very alluring.

Tap at Rattle N Hum for the Ballast Point Promo night with Joe and Zach. Pours a deep violet brown hazy with thin filmy head. Aroma is black currant jam, earth, woody, funk, aceto and a light caramelized malty tone. Flavor is woody, earth tones, oak,dirt, funk light horsey brett lots of pedio and modest aceto mineral and slight wet dog hair. reminds me a touch of Iron Hill cassis lambic but not quite as sharp with aceto, and this BP had a touch less fruit, but still quite good in the fruit dept. This one may be developing fast, since its older lower ratings. I thought it was pretty damn good.
