COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Some might think we’re out of our gourd for making a pumpkin ale, but our Pumpkin Down is not like the others. The caramel and toffee maltiness of our Piper Down Scottish ale is the perfect backdrop for a boatload of roasted pumpkin. Just before bottling, we add a subtle amount of spice to complement, but not overwhelm, the earthy flavor. It was a smash at the brewery, and we think you’ll agree.

Sampled from the tap at ABR 2017. Pours a clear reddish amber with a light brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has sweet grains, bread and pumpkin spice backing. Flavor has a lot of grain and bread with a growing pumpkin and pumpkin spice note.

Smells like potpourri. Heavy on the pumpkin/butternut squash taste with only mild to moderate spice on the sip. Needs something to smooth those two qualities together. Becomes kind of watery at the end.

bottle - Amber pour. The aroma is dominated by pumpkin pie spices. It tastes of sweet, bready malt, those pumpkin pie spices, and some pumpkins. Good balance. Medium bodied. Very solid pumpkin beer.

You get the cinnamon, bready, spices, as you should for a pumpkin ale. The aftertaste is quite off-putting. Doesn't match well with what you're initially tasting. That being said, Ballast Point, always makes a solid beer.

v sweet, molasses, but with a mildly bitter finish that slightly evens it out. mf is syrupy at first but seems watery at finish bizarrely enough, carbonation is low, I could go for more spices and less sugar

Bottle. I've tried a lot of Pumpkin Beers but most are either too Pumpkin-y or nowhere near pumpkin-y enough. This strikes a good balance between the fruit and spices. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Deep red pour with a tan head. The aroma is full of pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg. It has a medium body with slightly slick texture and lively carbonation. The taste is sweet and malty with a pleasant, spicy finish.

12 oz. bottle. Murky brown, with a small, bubbly, tan head. Smells of pumpkin seeds, rye, toast, cinnamon, and peat. Nice, mild, malty sweetness, with a light bitter flavor. Medium body, with a chalky, malty feel. Pretty nice, malty, beer. Not overly sweet or spicy, just malty pumpkin.
