COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Some might think we’re out of our gourd for making a pumpkin ale, but our Pumpkin Down is not like the others. The caramel and toffee maltiness of our Piper Down Scottish ale is the perfect backdrop for a boatload of roasted pumpkin. Just before bottling, we add a subtle amount of spice to complement, but not overwhelm, the earthy flavor. It was a smash at the brewery, and we think you’ll agree.

Deep clear Amber pour with a thin ring of off white head .... Aroma is light and of caramel/toasted malts with light notes of pumpkin spice .... Taste is just toasted caramel malts and very light pumpkin spice notes ... None really sticks out more maybe cinnamon .... Finish is short and of caramel malts .... Bland and simple.... too simple

Bottle. Pours amber brownish with an off white head. Nutty sweet malts and pie spices, some light toasted malts, and mild grassy hoppy bitterness peeking through in the finish. Not overly sweet or spiced. Well balanced and relatively drinkable.

12 oz bottle: Pumpkin Down. Pours ruby red, small white head, little retention. Aroma is vegetal, pumpkin, maybe some cough syrup. Flavor is cough syrup, pumpkin. Maybe this should never be drank the night after having two bottles of Warlock. Probably my least favorite BP beer to date.

Nice smooth Caramelized malty base beer with an authentic pumpkin and nutmeg spiciness. Pumpkin is subtle and not overdone. Tastes like pumpkin pie. Not fake pumpkin flavors. It is quite nice. Not huge on pumpkin beers but this is subdued enough, and with a very nice base beer that it works well. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark auburn with a thin head. Malty aroma with a hint of toffee, vanilla and pumpkin. Taste is more straight pumpkin than pumpkin spice. Hints of vanilla, toffee, and malts as well.

Clear chestnut pour with a thin white head. Aroma is big on caramel and herbal hops, then some toffee, pie spice and earthy pumpkin, roasted nuts and just a hint of dried orange. Flavor is dark caramel, toffee, roasted nuts, earthy cinnamon heavy pie spice, pumpkin, crusty bread, light chocolate liqueur, prairie flower floral, light grassiness, a little spiced citrus and some earthy plantiness. Medium body, slightly syrupy entry, somewhat chewy, but astringent after that. Really good stuff, definitely a good beer style to do the pumpkin pie treatment to.

Pours a deep dark reddish color with a foamy off white head. Notes of baked apples, cinnamon, toffee, sour grains.

I’m not wild about pumpkin beer, but this one is pretty good. It’s clearly a scotch ale with pumpkin added. It pours a dark copper color, there isn’t much foam. The pumpkin is there on the aroma, but mostly this beer smells like a scotch ale, with warm caramel malt, liquor and citrus notes. The flavor is where the pumpkin and pumpkin spices come through most clearly on the finish of the flavor, but not so strongly that they dominate the scotch ale character.

Sample at Dominion Wine and Beer. Pours a clear cola with an off white head. Pumpkin pie spice aroma. Flavors of pumpkin and cloves.
