Some might think we’re out of our gourd for making a pumpkin ale, but our Pumpkin Down is not like the others. The caramel and toffee maltiness of our Piper Down Scottish ale is the perfect backdrop for a boatload of roasted pumpkin. Just before bottling, we add a subtle amount of spice to complement, but not overwhelm, the earthy flavor. It was a smash at the brewery, and we think you’ll agree.

Sample at Dominion Wine and Beer. Pours a clear cola with an off white head. Pumpkin pie spice aroma. Flavors of pumpkin and cloves.

Better aroma than taste. Big pumpkin spice and malt on the nose. A bit unbalanced imo on the tongue. Too much hop profile, style wise anyway, for my liking but decent overall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Shared 12 oz. bottle poured to snifters showing a fairly clear, copper/mahogany color, with presentable, off white head foam, and spots of lacing. The nose was some pie spice, subtle pumpkin, and a bit of dried fruit. The taste was similar, light to medium bodied, with lively, fizzy carbonation, and some lingering, earthy bitterness. Mild combination of the styles, but nicely drinkable.

28 July 2015, tap at Ballast Point. Light ruby, clear, nose is Amber malt with pumpkin bread. Thin body and moderately fizzy. Nicely toasted malt, slightly sweet, some pumpkin but not much, and more pumpkin bread than pumpkin pie - not much spice. Nice.

On tap at old grove. Pours a reddish amber with a small off white head which fades to ok lacing. Aroma is of pumkin, sweet malts, caramel, and some spices. Taste is about the same as the aroma with some mild hops. Has a medium body with a slighty creamy mouthfel and a mostly sweet, medium finish. Overall, a pretty nice, interesting hybrid bewteen a pumpkin ale and a Scottish ale.
