Impossibly reddish in color (due to the beets) with nitro cascade fading into a pink cap of stable foam, great clarity. Seeing the beer in the glass shows the obvious resemblance to a slice of red velvet cake (red cake on the bottom topped with a layer of creamy white frosting). But the similarities dont end there. The aroma is dominated by chocolate with earthy notes of beets and subtle wafts of roast coco. The flavor is similar to the aroma but with faint roast and hop bitterness coming in at the end balance it out, not cloying or overly sweet. The mouthfeel is medium and the finish is luxuriously smooth. Its dessert served in a pint glass!

Bottle. Surprisingly clear, deep ruby red with a resilient off-white slightly pinkish head. Aroma of vanilla cake and cocoa. Tastes pretty bland, but lightly toasted and very lightly sweet. Thinnish medium body; smooth. A bit of a let down.

Red/amber with a thin white head. Aroma is faintly sweet, vanilla, cake batter. Not sure how this got classified as a stout. Mildly sweet fruity flavor along with the vanilla. Interesting and odd. Too soft with an unbalanced bitterness. Okay, I had it and I do not have to return.

I had high hopes for this beer but it wasn't even close. So so so bland. It doesn't have much flavor ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bright cherry red with pink head. Did not expect an oatmeal Stout to look like this. Smell is similar to red velvet cake with vanilla icing. Very unusual taste. Initially it seems watery but that might be from the nitro. Taste is kind of like red velvet cake, but with some other flavors I cant place. Maybe the beets. The best part of this beer is the label.

[Bottle (12oz)] Did not expect it to look like this. Pours a deep dark orange, almost amber, with an average size long-lasting frothy pinkish-white head. Minimal lacing. Aroma is sweet, lactic and chocolatey along with a hint of beet earthiness, oatmeal, maybe some vanilla and a "nitro" smell. Flavour is also sweet and malty and tastes like "nitro", along with chocolate and vanilla. Its quite flavourful. Average bodied. Kudos for trying something different, I didnt love it but it is interesting and in the end, good.

bright red color; does not look anything like a stout; chocolate aroma; very smooth; light bodied; choclate notes; some vanilla notes and white chocolate; slightly sweet malt; not much roasted malt; beets are not noticable in the flavor - but certainly lend to the amazing color of this beer

12 oz bottle. Pours a mostly clear ruby red with a pink hue and topped by a thick, creamy beige colored Nitro head of foam that shows good retention before settling to a thin film and leaves patches of lace around the glass. The aroma showed notes of chocolate, vanilla cream, a touch of cake batter, some earthy beats, oats, and toasted caramel malts to go with the typical Nitro smell. I can see the red velvet in the aroma, but it was all fairly light. The flavor follows suit with light chocolate, vanilla, and some cake batter to go with the toasted caramel malts. Medium bodied, smooth, and creamy from the oats and Nitro with subtle carbonation that leads to a light cocoa and vanilla finish. Interesting beer and pretty cool using a Nitro bottle, but the flavors just werent quite there. The Nitro seems to hide some flavors to me.

12-ounce bottle pours a a reddish-pink color with no head. Aroma: not much, yet a little sweet. Flavor: all over the map, yet not anything in particular stand out; I detect some vanilla, chocolate, raisins, beet sugar, pepper, cinnamon. Mouthfeel: medium-bodied. In all, this is a really lousy-tasting beer, especially considering that it wasnt cheap. Yet, I applaud the creativity. Ballast Point makes many better beers.

Pours hazy reddish amber with a resilient pinkish head. Scent is chocolate and grains as well as sweeter vanilla cakey notes. Taste has some coco but also some more weiss character. Body is light. The color is really fascinating. Especially juxtaposed with the stout scent. Just an alright beer taste wise though. Could be because the bottles been sitting out a while.
