San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

355ml bottle into a tulip glass; served cold. Aroma: Lots of grapefruit and lemony hops. Zesty and bright for sure. Appearance: Clear, amber-yellow body with a dissipating white head. Nice lacing, though! Taste: Loads of citrusy hops with just a little bit of pine/resin bite. Malt is pretty mild; this one is all hop. Palate: Medium body, moderate prickly carbonation, and a long bitter finish. Overall: A very, very nice IPA. Great hop-forward beer, classic west-coast flavors.

Botlle - clear gold - effervescent, lively pour - certainly my kind of IPA - clean, lean malts that are semi-sweet but ligh and crisp, allowing the hop flavor and bitterness to shine - strong bitterness and complex tropical fruit notes - finish is bright, peppery, spicy - overall a solid IPA, but not entirely worth its huge reputation.

The pour is murky but the aroma is immediately enticing. The hoppy, grapefruit and apricot make it an exciting afternoon beer. The taste is tropical, bitter and hoppy: immediately pleasing to the palate.

This IPA pours golden orange with a bit of haze and minimal head. Aroma is phenomenal with loads of hoppy citrus, apricot, and mango. Taste is moderately sweet, sticky, with a long lasting bitter aftertaste. Medium body and crisp finish.

The day after having their big eye. This one is definitely different enough to justify having 2 IPAs. More piney and nutty than big eye. Hops are less dank, but are more unique and piney. Average to high avg bitterness for the style. Defiinitely very citrusy. Probably the most citrusy IPA Ive had in awhile, which sets this one apart very well. I enjoyed this one and understand why it is sometimes sold out.

Bottle from trade with StefanSD, many thanks. Clear amber color with small white head. Strong hoppy aroma with grapefruit, tangerines, honey, grapefruit zest. Taste, malt, oranges, grapefruit, mango, orange zest, pines. Very dry long hoppy bitter finish. So far, the best IPA I ever had.

Tap at Todd English Pub, Las Vegas. Poured a clear golden with a small white head. Aromas of fresh mango, passionfruit and citrus. Fuck this smells so good. Taste showcases the nose superbly. Loads of passionfruit and toffee/caramel malts. Really nice lingering passionfruit bitterness. Can't put the glass down. Fuck me one of the best ipas ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
