San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Beautiful, clear, golden appearance. Smells like oranges, aged citrus and aromatic herbs. Tastes like mixed citrus zest with a punch of basil. I got super herbal notes off this IPA. It’s not the most brutal IPA, hops are more integrated over being a hop sucker punch. Incredibly balanced. A great IPA

Great IPA, mild hoppy notes with a solid fruity flavor. Very nice beer could easily make a sessionable contender

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2014 Aroma is of strong citrus like citra hops. Taste of strong citrusy and a mild hop after taste. This is an excellent ipa. A little more bitterness could make the flavor more pronounced other than that this is great ipa.

Very firm bitterness and very carbonated. Dank hops - Columbus? Might also be some Simcoe. Dry bit a little malt in the finish. Solid. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

One of my favorite beers. A fruity, not sweet taste with a tasty hoppiness, which doesn't overwhelm. The 7.0 alcohol gives it a nice kick. Excellent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is a very smooth IPA. Not overpowering pine hops nor bitter. Mild hops after about 5 seconds with a slow fade. This is excellent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

Pours clear amber with minimal head. Good hoppy aroma. Good mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Flavor is piney, slightly sweet with a biting bitterness at the end. Overall a good textbook IPA.

12 oz. bottle, consumed on 12-23-13. Quite pleasant, juicy aroma features orange, grapefruit, apricot, cotton candy, and cherry-flavored candy scents. Dusty, chalky dryness to the smell. Pours a clear brass with a few slow-rising bubbles and a small to moderate amount of beige head. Ordinary appearance. Dry taste features lemon and pine flavors with touches of brine and sweet cream. Some spice in the finish. The aroma is more fruit-y while the flavor is more pine-y. Very nice, dry aftertaste. Medium body. Crisp, reasonably lively, and a little bit frothy in the palate. Sculpin is darn solid and a prototypical West Coast IPA. It is highly drinkable but it is not mind-blowing. This bottle has at least a month or two of age on it. I recall earlier bottles from the six-pack as being a bit more impressive.
