San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

The Sculpin is a very well balanced IPA , fresh ,piney and very little bitterness which makes it easy to drink if your not much into IPA’s, you should enjoy this one ,but don’t stop at one have two and you will definitely see what I mean. I paired it with a juicy bacon burger , it cut thru the fat cleaning my palate leaving that fresh piney ,citrusy favor in my mouth.

Bottle (22 ounce): Clear, golden with a hint of copper and a thick head. Huge lift of fresh hops. Lantana, citrus, pine. Very fresh. Green but rich.. Dry to off dry. Medium to medium high bitterness. Not sour. Rich, very fresh. Great weight and length. Bitterness is balanced by flavor. Tropical, citrus, pine hop flavors with malt to match. Intense west coast IPA but as balanced as they come. Intense but lovely beer.

Pours a cloudy orange with an average head that left some lacing. Wonderful aromas of grapefruit, peach and other citrus, as well as pine. Great balance sweet citrus and bitter hops. A great beer, deserving of its reputation.
