San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Tap at Todd English Pub, Las Vegas. Poured a clear golden with a small white head. Aromas of fresh mango, passionfruit and citrus. Fuck this smells so good. Taste showcases the nose superbly. Loads of passionfruit and toffee/caramel malts. Really nice lingering passionfruit bitterness. Can't put the glass down. Fuck me one of the best ipas ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Had this a while back and could have sworn that I rated it, but apparently I was wrong. Don't remember too many details, but I remember thinking that it was a knock out IPA. Whenever I see it out I recommend jt to IPA lovers. Very crisp from what I recall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a bottle. Pours a dark golden orange with a thick white head that dissipates. Aroma is rather muted but is well balanced with hops, citrus and other fruits and a hint grass. Taste is well balanced with citrus up front. Do I taste a hint of caramel from the malt? Perhaps that is the mango and other fruits but it is a nice middle tone to balance out the citrus and hops. Middle is a bit of hop and a crisp and clean finish. Palate is citrus/grass followed by hops and a nice finish.

Colour is amber. Head is really thick. Aroma is shampoo, cookie dough, tropical fruit and pine needles. Very hoppy and bitter taste of resin, pine needles and tropical fruit. A bit thin. Goes down very easy.

Wow. I thought I had some great ipa’s but this one takes the cake! Citrus grapefruit aroma. Perfectly balanced hop bitterness and grapefruit sweetness. The bitterness hangs around as an aftertaste a little bit longer than the grapefruit but isn’t unpleasant. Usually cans are associates with cheaper generic beer but this one tosses out that assumption.

Well for $15 per sixer this better knock my socks off and while it is nice it is hardly worth double the price of most other IPA’s out there. It is well balanced, slight citrus and slight grass notes, a thin body with a dense white head. The appearance is the best part as the aroma and taste are strictly middle of the road with very little aftertaste.

Cunningham (7860) - Halden, NORWAY - DEC 2, 2013
Appearance: Clear golden color with a fine white head that leaves a nice lacing.
Aroma: Fine grape hoppy, malty and tropical fruity.
Palate: Medium + body. Moderate sweet and a fine bitterness. Average carbonation.
Taste: Mild grape hoppy, balanced tropical fruity and a fine mild malty back.
Overall impression: Lovely fresh and balanced IPA!
Personal stats: Bottle Geir had bought in Sweden.
