San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Out of the bomber: Clear brassy orange with off-white, orange hued foam which settles after a couple minutes, leaves some lace. If you want to know what hops smell like, get a whiff of this. Pine-y sappy, grapefruit, apricot, some caramel, some grass. The flavor has a very clean and crisp bitterness, nicely balanced by straight forward malty sweetness. Very approachable, as IPAs go. Not over the top. Very well balanced. The carbonation is adequate. Mouthfeel holds up well.

12 ounce bottle straight out of the bottle. Wow intensely hoppy but not bitter some grassy, pine hop notes but not overwhelming. Wow this is a GREAT ipa. Would drink again anytime Delicious One of my favorite IPA’s

12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy gold with almost no head. Beautiful aromas of toffee, oranges, and spruce. Flavors are similar with additional candy notes and light bitter finish.

This is my favorite IPA. I love Heady Topper, 90 Minute, etc., but this is as good as a beer gets, in my opinion. So great! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Amber colored, moderate head, decent lace/retention. Aroma is grapefruit, pine, citrus, some mango, light caramel, very fruity. Medium bodied, moderate bitterness. Excellent.

Dapierce17 (110) - Pasco, Washington, USA - NOV 2, 2013
Pours an amber color with soapy white head. Aromas of lemon and apricot. Not very strong hop smell on the nose. Tastes of apricot and piney hops coming through with some if the malt flavors being picked up. A little heavy on the mouth feel. Not a bad IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Drjohnrock (805) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - NOV 1, 2013
Draft sample at 2013 Cincinnati Brew Ha Ha festival. Cloudy golden hue, strong hoppy/fruity nose, pleasing bittersweet taste with a lot of different fruit notes.

Bottle. Very hoppy slight citrus taste. Goldfish yellow pour with minimal Head. One of the best IPA's out there. Farts galore. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
