San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2015 The second i opened the bottle and poured it into a Hoegaarden pint glass..i new this was going to be something really good..golden/orange color with 1 inch white head..peach/apricot/citrus aroma..citrus fruits, hops, earthy flavor and one of the best balanced IPA i’ve had so far.

Well for $15 per sixer this better knock my socks off and while it is nice it is hardly worth double the price of most other IPA’s out there. It is well balanced, slight citrus and slight grass notes, a thin body with a dense white head. The appearance is the best part as the aroma and taste are strictly middle of the road with very little aftertaste.

Appearance: Clear golden color with a fine white head that leaves a nice lacing.
Aroma: Fine grape hoppy, malty and tropical fruity.
Palate: Medium + body. Moderate sweet and a fine bitterness. Average carbonation.
Taste: Mild grape hoppy, balanced tropical fruity and a fine mild malty back.
Overall impression: Lovely fresh and balanced IPA!
Personal stats: Bottle Geir had bought in Sweden.

Great Ipa. Had in large bottle. Perfect ipa with spicy food. Had great hop aroma with no after taste that some ipas leave. A top5 ipa for sure.

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2015 Always wanted to try this - finally - supremely balanced - quite a malt bite to it but lovely hop load.

Awesome blond beer. Great smell, very complex. Rich, deep taste. Absolute not watery. Very nice.

A recent fave. All bottles. Limited head, crystal clear and amber color. Strong hop bite with great hop smell. Well balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Great tropical fruit aroma. Nice tight bubbles on the head with good lacing. Golden amber with a slightly bready taste to help back up the plentiful hops.

9/21/13 Butcher and the Boar, Downtown Minneapolis. Aroma of hops. Light copper in color. Starts smooth and finishes hoppy. Probably not hoppy enough for hopheads but all I taste is hops. OK at best . ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
