San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Aroma of grapefruit, pine, apricots, orange peels and a hint of lemon. Taste is similar to the aroma. Bitter and slightly sweet with a medium body and carbonation. A great fresh and juicy IPA.

Bottle. Pours hazy orange with foamy white head. Doesnt have a very strong aroma, what it does have is kinda fruity smelling. Tastes very fruity for any IPA, citrus finish, bitter end. Not that good.

Poured into glass from bottle light golden with thin white head. Aroma is piny, resinous. Mouthfeel is a bit light, especially for the hop doseage. Bitter finish that lingers on the palate. Nice carbonation.

Nice amber color & citrus aroma, but I was sort of disappointed with the mouth feel & taste, and the after taste is sort of sour.

Slightly hazy, amber liquid with a big white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Very fruity aroma, citrus and tropical fruits with a hint of caramel in the background. The taste is distinctly bitter with a little more caramel then on the nose. Long bitter aftertaste Medium to low carbonation with tiny bubbles, decent mouthfeel. Very, very good even if this bottle was a tad old.

Bottle, 355ml - Clear amber orange beer with a moderate white head. Aroma is fruity with notes of cactus fruit, citrus, pine needles and pineapple. Flavour is fruity with notes of citrus, pine needles and spices. Balanced yet dry IPA with a great long lasting piney taste.
