San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Clear golden copper. Smells of light sweet hops. Tastes warm light hops, a definite citrus rind bite to these hops. Leaves a bit of that citrus bite sticky on your palate in the after taste.

Pours a nice amber. Aroma is lots of fruit: mango, lychee, peach, apricot. Some grass & hay and pine as well. Taste: yeah! Mango, kiwi, orange, peach, some dew grass. Insanely well balanced!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A beer with great color and a good taste. The bitterness lingers in the mouth. Overall enjoyable.

Pours a clear orange yellow with a thick head from a bottle. Nice to get a 6-pack for $15. Sweet hops and apricot is the aroma, very nice. Flavor is a really nice sweet hop on the back of the tongue. This was a great recommendation by the beer guy at Cardinal in Niles. I would have thought this beer to be more than 7%.

ericdevin (988) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - JUL 3, 2013
Draft and bottle at 16 Tons Taphouse, Eugene. Pours fairly clear medium golden orange. Decent amount of head. Aroma resinous, with malty overtones. Dank, to say the least, but with some hints of citrus moderating the overall effect. Body very lively, finish malty and resinous, abrupt, very easy-drinking. Good, but not the world-beater it’s made out to be.

Rated in 2010 (Backlog) - Bright orange in color with an average sized white head. Aroma is slightly peppery with lots of grapefruit and orange, light grassiness, and floral notes. Taste is of grapefruit, bitter floral notes and a bit of tropical fruit.

cmonster (1000) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUL 1, 2013
Bottle served in a tulip. Pours hazy bronze with a short+ head. Decent retention and lovely lace. Ohhh the aroma... ahhh the flavor. This is a legend. Beautiful nose of lemon and tart pineapple, with resin, pine, and pale malt. Minimally sweet and plenty bitter though never approaching astringent. Medium body, sticky-thin texture and a very bitter, oily, dry finish.

Beuatiful clear gold pour. Aroma is citrus rind and a little weed. Taste is sweet citrus, a bitter bite and some sour. Nice balance.

Drank from a bottle after a sauna. Fruity, strongly hopped traditional IPA. The taste is a bit sharp but otherwise it’s good.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured Clear copper color medium head that leaves tons of lacing all over the glass. Aroma is predominantly floral and citrus hops, some fruit in there too. As hoppy as it is is also quite well balanced, good malts backbone with a great and strong bitter finish. Great beer, enjoying the heck out it.
