San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma of citrus, caramel, bread, and florals. Taste is really well balanced with a nice easy drinking bitterness. Tasty stuff.

Aroma of grapefruit. Pours a clear orangish amber with a none lasting white head and no lacing. The taste is is much like the nose. Grapefruit up front with notes of honey, some pine in the finish. Medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, a well done IPA.

Aroma - wonderful florally/citrusy smell. Appearance - Nice amber w/ decent head/lacing. Taste - Wonderfully balanced and deep hop taste, not overpowering at all. Palate - Nice carbonation, good mouthfeel and has a lovely dry hoppy finish. Overall - A class IPA. It just has outstanding hop balance from start to finish. One of my favorite’s and highly recommended.

Pours light amber/orange. Nice lacing. Spicey citrus aroma. Pungent hops. Taste... Wonderfully balanced. Sweet start with floral spicey hops kick. Perfect palate. Not too thin but not overly thick. Bitterness lingers until the next sips. Truly world class DIPA. On my short list.

Sweet, spicy grapefruit aroma. Almost clear blonde-gold, carpeting head. Mellow caramel with a nice floral hop edge. Chewy. Long woody finish with citrus pith. Hop bomb. On tap, Momo’s. Thanks, Uncle Doug.

Draft at Proof. Deep gold pour with a bubbly white head and laces all the way down the glass. Big mango, peach, pineapple and tangerine hops on the nose with a light sweetness. All the aroma flavor stuck around the flavor with a great balance and lingering bitterness. Great fucking beer.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2014 Off the tap into a tulip glass. One finger of head on a deep golden colored body. The aroma is pineapple, mango, lemon and grapefruit. Nice. The taste is biting bitterness with a bit of honey at the end. A crisp texture and a bit smooth with moderate carbonation and medium body. It’s a great IPA.

Sweet citrus hop in the aroma. Pours a cloudy light Orange with yellow tints in the light. Good hop in the front with a more constant bitterness throughout.. not really complex in the flavor stages.
