San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Stringing the senses of hops, fruits, and sweet flowers. It appears as a darker honey color. The taste is of hops but with a twist of a lemony acid sting. Encoats the palate is hops and the flavor stays even after the drink is gone. Overall, this beer is great on a warm summer day and you just need something to drink to refresh yourself.

translucent gold with a thick dense head. medium-full body with high carbonation.

aroma: bright citrusy apricot slight-pine hops, sweet pale malt with a rather helles-like character.

taste: grassy piney hop bitterness, a definite woody note, pale malt, mild minerality, and a touch of yeastiness.

Bottle from BrewDog Edinburgh. Strong hoppy aroma. Cloudy amber brown colour, good head. Tropical fruit & hop flavour, bitter aftertaste. Decent IPA.

This looked amazing in the Hallertau Willi Becher glass it came in. Juicy tropical, resiny, citrus aromas and flavour, dry, crisp and punchy. Drinks down so easily.

Hazy orange with mild head/lacing. Aroma smells pretty tastey, with fruit candied sweet bready pastry, slight peppery spice, nice overall hop aroma. Initially a tart citrusy presence, then some light sweet malt witha light bready toastiness, grassyness followed by orange citrus/mild piney bitterness, nice floral tones even in the bittering flavor.Seems a bit undercarbed with a slightly noticable flatness to it. I have no idea how long this has been room temp shelved though,it held up prettty well. I would drink this anytime.Very nice ipa

Hazy golden body, white head. Well, the outlook of this beer is mediocre, but thats fortunately the only thing. Very pure caramel aroma with exotic fruits and some pines in background. Flavour is dry, charasteristically same as aroma, but couple notches down. Floury mouthfeel. Nice rough maltiness in aftertaste. Excellent IPA.

Bottle. Wow! This is one of my favorite IPAs of the last year. Sweet caramel scent with a mildly citrus hint, orange more than grapefruit. The appearance kept with the orange, a peach tint almost, with huge lacing. Beautiful. The palate was silky smooth, medium bodied, and the taste was vibrantly present although with a mild hoppiness, leaving a sugary taste on the tongue with the finish.

Yellowish amber color with a whitish head, not very dark. Punchy, bitter taste with floral hoppiness. Light hints of citrusy fruit underneath. Very good IPA.

Odd duck; in some ways just an ordinary brew; but in others, a rocking draught. I really ike that they dont follow the standard citrus/resin formula. Served again perhaps a bit too cold, still eminantly drinkable, a smallish off white head that lasts forever, and total lace. color is a honey amber. Aroma is a fragrant wet grass, hop, caramel, yeast. Flavors about the same plus carbonic tang accenting the high, bitter points.Body is great, ditto carbonation. Finish is a funky hop finish

12oz bottle at Brouhaha, honey gold color, with an off-white bubbly head, soft soapy, floral leafy, grassy, citrusy hop, and a hint of metallic in the nose, with some candied lemon, grapefruit peel, mild coniferous, piney bittering accents in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a nice flowery fruity apple skin, leafy, grassy, piney, candied lemon, grapefruit peel hop character with some soft coniferous, minty leafiness backbone, and a faint honeyed pale, toasted malt undertone, leading towards a mild candied citrus, lemon, grapefruit, orange peel, piney, coniferous, grassy, leafy hop bitterness finish. A bit disappointed, maybe because probably it was an old bottle! dont know
