San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Bottle Pours a clear golden with a frothy white head. The head lasts well and produces spotty lacing. Has a good hoppy aroma of spruce, citrus, peaches, and some bread. Has a good carbonation. The flavor is real good. Mild bitterness, with good hoppy kick. Real smooth mouthfeel. Blended very well. Has a medium body. The texture is a touch oily. Has a good solid finish with an excellent aftertaste. I waited for this one for a while. Too bad the store only sold one to a customer.

Fruity aroma with tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, and some pine resin. Bitter flavor with lemon, orange, and a little bready malt. Bittersweet finish. A fine, well-balanced IPA.

On draft. Oh my. Weenie yellow color, but rich lacing. Flavor is of reduced blood orange, sweet, tart, rich and quick. No malts to speak of. Sweet OJ finish. Wow.

Bottle. Nose is bright summery; peach, mango, lychee, sweet floral note. Taste is citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruit, spruce, onion, very light resin the bitterness comes from the emerging grapefruit rind. A little to fizzy for me. It’s a class leading American IPA.

Sculpin kunne jeg altid have liggende klar. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cloudy pour. Very hoppy nose. Super frothy head dies quickly but a light layer floats ontop. Some lacing. Alcohol is not detected. Above average for this style. Aftertaste is bitter and long lasting. Bottle at the Square wine Company, Madison, Wisconsin.
