San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

On tap at Capones. Strong grapefruit character and hoppy, but somehow possesses a more refined taste than some of the other beers Ive had. Quite tasty.

650 mL bottle. Clear gold pour, tall white head, good lacing. Big citrus aroma, mild cereal malt notes. Taste is very well balanced, lots of citrus, mainly orange and a long lasting bitter finish. Great IPA.

Pours a very clear, coppery-amber color, with a decent, stable head. Smells of biscuity malts, with a hoppiness featuring a grassy dankness as well as an orange ripeness. While the hops are beautifully well pronounced on the nose, they blend well into the malts with a note of lemon zest standing out from that mixture. Drinks outstandingly soft, with a well integrated aqueous note, perfectly covered by pungent hops, creating a fantastic refreshment. Begins with bready malts, together with a short appearing coppery note, integrated into the overall taste by sun-bathed, sweet oranges. They introduce an exuberant fruit note to the palate, covered by dry, bitter lemon, pushed by a slightly metallic carbonation. Finishes with luscious lemon rind, leafes, a sparkly burn and a dried orange. Convinces by a world-class balance between sweeter malts and distinct hops, which blend marvelously well together. The hops provide an awesome flavor profile, around which the flavors are successfully build, exhibiting a great depth

This holed IPA has an amazingly beautiful aroma. Very floral and citrusy. The flavor has a strong hop flavor with lots of bite. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Farbe goldig, trb. Geruch fruchtig, mit Mango. Dazu Kruterhopfen. Im Geschmack leicht rests. Zum Ende bitter, aber nicht zu bitter. Leicht mehlige Textur, aber das liegt an der Hopfenmenge. Sehr gut.

Appearance is hazy amber, with a thick creamy beige head, which clings to the glass. Aroma- orange, pineapple, creamy malt, tropical fruit juice, pine, hop resin. Yum. Taste- massive hop bitterness, orange peel, pineapple, juicy tropical fruit, pine, grapefruit, hop resins. Huge bitter fruit, but also theres biscuity malt underpinning the whole thing. Mouthfeel is oily and clingy, hugely long bitter finish. Superb IPA.

Review #50 Poured from bomber into snifter A: Pours a nice clear golden apple color with a light peach 1.5 finger head. Great retention on this brew. An incredible net-like lace follows me down the glass. S: Nice light citrus hops, sweet honey, floral hops as well. T: Very sweet flowers with a light citrus hoppy note. Just a tad bitter on the backend but mellows back to a nice sweet oak. M: Light bodied, incredibly smooth and a nice light carbonation as well. Leaves a nice sweet and bitter taste. O: I think this was good, but the flavors and smell sort of fell flat. There was some sediment in the bottle so I plan on revisiting this when I know Im having the freshest Sculpin I can have.
