San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Cask at Get Real NY. Dry hopped with Fuggles. Very nice fruity aroma, lots of citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruit. Taste is hoppy, pine and fruit, but very smooth. Light bitterness on the finish. Very fruity, flavorful, smooth, complex, amazing IPA. Need to try this again, and soon. One of the few beers at Get Real that really stood out.

Bottle. Pours an unclear orange with an average, off-white head. Aromas of light malts, caramel, and lots of hops (pine, orange, grapefruit, peach). Flavor is slightly sweet with a strong hop flavor. Hop notes of grapefruit, pine and other sweet fruits nicely balanced by some moderate malts.

Pours gold with a thick white head. Aroma is pine and exotic tropical fruits. Taste is a mellow blend of pine, mango, and light malts. The hop resins linger in the aftertaste. Pleasant IPA & good session beer.

Mycket svag doft. Ren torr IPA med viss metall i smaken..Lagom humlad. . Saknar dock frukt fyllighet fr att bli en perfekt IPA. Svenska bryggare hmta inspiration hr.

UPDATED: DEC 22, 2012 Re-rated: Ive enjoyed this a few times more since my initial rating. I do like it better, and perhaps appreciate the velvety mouthfeel and smoothness of it more than I did. 1st rating: What am I missing here? Sorry, but I was just underwhelmed by this beer. Is it a good IPA? Yup. Maybe even in my top ten...I will have to try a few more at different sessions. But I just cant see why this beer is rated so incredibly highly. I didnt think it had much of a nose, the head was nothing special, and the taste was characterized by smooth but very uncomplicated hops. A very dry and lingering bitter aftertaste, which is okay. I just dont see what all the fuss is about. I dont even consider this the best IPA from San Diego...I find Alesmiths IPA significantly more impressive, and probably Green Flashs West Coast IPA a tad better.

Appearance was amber gold with diminishing whitish creamy 1 finger head, spotty lacing.Aromas where sweet honey malt with grapefriut, lemons, oranges and spices. Taste was sweet figs, honey sweet malty backbone with melony citrus lemony hops comes through in the back. Palate was smooth creamy carbonation with beautiful medium balance of sweetness and hops. Wonderful IPA...

From tap. Bronze, clear nice creamy foam. Creamy caramel, and fruit in the aroma. Toffee, fruit, hint of citrus with intense caramell hoppyness in the growing aftertaste.
