San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

UPDATED: DEC 7, 2015 Pretty much the perfect IPA, plus its always readily available. Sturdy enough malt backbone that lets bright apricot and citrus shine.

Dark golden color with large, bubbly, bleach white head. There is a ton of lacing on each sip. The aroma is full of resiny hops with all the complexities of a big blend (grapefruit and pine). The flavors are mildly sweet with lots of bitterness and spciiness from the hops. There isnt any one character of the beer that really makes it pop, but the balance of the very strong flavors makes it extremely enjoyable.

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2009 Bomber. This is a fantastic IPA. Pours very clear and has the citrus aroma in spades. White peach, grapefruit, lemon, honey. I think these beers go from the far "pine" spectrum to the far "citrus" spectrum. This is far on the citrus side. Fantastic and easy to drink, I could have this all day long. Rerated 11/25/09: from 4.1 to 4.5 this is amazing beer, Huge aroma of fresh citrus hops and absolutely delicious on my tongue. wow, killer beer.

Pours clear copper with a big puffy beige head, very good lacing, excellent retention. Aromas of grapefruit, tropical fruit, floral notes, bread, grass. Medium body, creamy. Lightly sweet, a hint of citrus, full bitter finish, but not over-the-top. Nice fruity-hop IPA.

From notes, at Craft Beer event in Puerto Rico. Cloudy amber orange colour. Aroma of citrus fruit, noticeable lemon, and some tart apples. Nice hop bitter and carbonation.

Bottle. Aroma was quite fruity, citrus, peach, mango I picked up in addition to floral. Appearance is orange golden medium-full off-white head. Light sweet taste. Medium-light malt body, texture on the thin side, mild bitter finish. Smooth finish mixing hop and malt. Not my favorite IPA, but definitely one of the better ones out there.

355ml flaska bestlld frn SB.

Pours a deep golden amber with a medium off white head, light lacing. Aroma is a citrus grapefruit hops with a very good sweet caramel malt character. Taste is sweet caramel malt followed by some good citrus hops with some very good grapefruit tangy notes. A medium bodied brew has a smooth mouth feel and moderate carbonation, easy on the palate and taste buds. The finish is a well balanced combination of caramel malt and citrus hops with a bit of lingering grapefruit tangy flavor. Overall a solid, very good, tasty and enjoyable IPA

Most delicious new IPA Ive had in years. Color is a bright golden hue, transparent, with a slight tinge of orange. Head is white and frothy rich, thick, meringue-like and jiggles when nudged. Head recedes to a thinner, but long lasting lace and Belgian lace surrounds the inside of my glass as this one goes down. Nose is full of bright citrus and citrusy black tea aromas. Im leaning towards tangerine and peaches with that black tea component, and a slight suggestion of biscuits. Sharp on the palate right away, but not an overwhelming in your face hop presence. Its big but not an assault like some APAs can offer. The bright citrus comes through and again some of the black tea qualities. Faint biscuity malt is in there, and it has a smooth creamy mouthfeel. I pick up some lemon towards the end.
