San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

On tap at Dukes, Malibu. Hot damn, this is a nice beer. Great aroma kicking my nose, nice great balance with malt. Alcohol is well hidden. I slurped two of these down in a hurry and would have had more but I was driving. Yummm0.

I was excited to find this one. Had to head up north about 3 hours; they don't sell ballast point where I live. Great clean aroma of earthy pine/citrus hops and a good amount of malt. Surprisingly fizzy, light golden color with a small, active white head. Tastes outstanding. Hoppy enough for true ipa fans but drinkable enough for novices to the style. Citrus hops mesh wonderfully with a malt backbone that components the hops without overwhelming them with sweetness. Overall very well crafted and well balanced IPA. A must have for all fans of the style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From San Diego. Bright translucent orange-copper with small watery white head. Lots of fruit in the smell - mango, pineapple, citrus. Tastes of fruity bitter hop and malt with a long slightly spicy finish. More malt and less hop than I expected. Body is crisp but juicy. Not very big and quite malty for an IPA but still very tasty.

A- Pours a golden hue with a nice, 2 finger, frothy off white head that is extremely chunky. S- Deep citrus fruits, mango, floral notes, grapefruit. T- Starts off light, floral hops, lots of grapefruit and tangerine on the back end with a deep bitterness. M- Medium bodied with carbonation that is a little too low. D- Very easy to drink. One of the best smelling IPAs out there. at 8.99 a bomber for an IPA its definitely a once in a while thing.

Bottle at a.Kitchen in Philly. POurs orange gold with fluffy white head. Huge, huge nose of grapefruit, tropical fruits and pine. Great aroma. Taste is all citrus fruits, pine resin and woodiness. The finish is slightly biteer and lingers. If the finish was smoother this would be out of the park.
