San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

A crystal clear, vibrant Amber body is crowned by a slowly fading inch of creamy tight white head, which settles to a lasting cap, creating some rounded peninsulas and dots of lace

Bright ruby red grapefruit leads the way with medium intensity, wrapped in various nuances of other citrus fruit, mild floral notes add character and lead to green melon and light piney darkness, a subtle doughy sweetness blends seemlessly on an exceptionally smooth, nicely cohesive medium-light body offering a touch of additional bitterness on the finish... fairly short lived residuals of the previously mentioned components

12 oz bottles with botched date code from six pack of BP Kansas welcome back - roll out served at 45 into Orrefors Difference Pils and Spiegelau IPA

From the brewery to my fridge in a few days courtesy of annapolisbeer. Dank/resinous, beautiful nose. Loads of citrus, and some papaya and strawberry even a little Kiwi? I could smell this for a long time. Taste is upfront a lot woodier than expected some resiny, piney hops, then the citrus returns with a really nice balancing sweetness, just enough malty character to add a touch of balance and an oily , really resinous and just slightly mouthcoating finish (yeah the finish is pretty much weed in a glass). This is a world class IPA. Thanks a ton, Kevin. I may hit you up for more freshies of this one in the future.

Bottle @ home from SF (thx Erik!!) Pours clear gold-copper, smooth white foam. Nose is fresh, with stone fruits and pine. Taste starts fresh and crisp with citrus, to descend in depths of flavour: Granny smith apple, citrus, sugary white grapes and bags of hop. All in perfect equilibrium and with a modest 7%ABV. It doesnt get much better than this.

At a tasting: amazing aroma, strong guava, lychee, pinapple, peach, in the flavor the same but weaker, more citrusy and bitter - less hop flavor, good malty backbone, very good beer.

A 22 fl oz bomber with a bottled code date of 15063 which means 4th March 2015, and poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass. The beer poured a very nice clear golden orange colour with a two and a half finger white head that dissipates slowly leaving a thin foamy layer and thick lacing. Nice strong aromas with tropical mango and peach strongest followed by apricot, citrus orange and some pine. Taste starts with citrus grapefruit and some light bready malts, followed by tropical fruits mainly mango, apricot and pineapple, hints of pine and finishes with bitter grapefruit once more. Medium bodied with medium carbonation and very refreshing Overall, a stunning beer. Loved it. One of the best IPAs out there in my opinion. A definite must buy for me. And now I just need to try an even fresher version.

Blueshawk (465) - Bad Bellingen, GERMANY - AUG 28, 2016
