San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Nice looking slightly hazy orange with decent white head. Aroma is dominated piney/citrusy hops. Flavors are much the same as the aroma. Firm malt body and aggressive, but pleasant, hop bitterness. Great example of a West Coast IPA.

A great IPA! From a freshly tapped keg, pours a lighter orange color with a nice frothy head. Tropical fruit aroma, not much malt backbone. Smooth, fruity, not harsh on the palate, grapefruit, mango, no piney hoppiness. Refreshing and not too bitter for an IPA, distinctive. Again, not much malt but is quite enjoyable as it is. I will drink this again!

On tap @ brewery. Clear, honey, small head, no lace. Medium body, light carbonation, and lightly dry. Nothing special about this brew. Citrus and fruit on the aroma as well as honey. Flavor is mostly grapefruit rind, with honey, floral-honey-comb. Kind of typical, but good.

Aroma is overwhelmingly citrus. Taste has citrus, some more elusive fruitiness - is this apricot? Appearance and Pala late are good.

Bottle from Bri @ Holiday Wine Cellar.. Pours a light golden color with a fluffy white head...Alot of citrus hops in the nose. This one has a really great smell..The flavor from begining to the end is all hops. That being said it is not as harsh as other IPAs that Ive had. It has a nice citrus sweetness that is very easy to drink..This one will bring out the hophead in all of us.

Incredibly fruity aroma that is intrusive - in a good way. Very fruity but still well- balanced. Not too sweet, still has that bitterness. A hefty 93 SEK (approx 14 usd) at Bishop Arms in Kiruna, but in Sweden thats not too bad for great craft beer.

Pours a honey-orange color, one finger off-white head. Moderate carbonation running up the glass. Aromas of big citrus (grapefruit/orange) with subtle notes of pine, sweet malt and tropical fruitiness. Taste has a great balance of the bitter citrus notes and a light bodied sweetness then moving to some more sweet notes of papaya, kiwi....before harmonizing with a clean, moderate bitterness in the finish. Very well rounded beer.
