San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Poured from a 22oz. bottle into a stemmed glass. The color is a clear orange/gold with two or three fingers of foamy white head and some thick lacing. The smell is pretty floral hops with some funky citrus flavor. This has a nice west coast IPA feel and I am impressed already. The taste is pretty sweet and pretty bitter but with a fruity citrus flavor that does give off a bit of zing. Pretty good spiky flavor that does poke with a bitterness that is not surprising but fun. Some tropical fruit I cant name brings you to a slapped back fruity flavor. The feel of this beer is a pretty smooth beer. It goes down pretty darn smooth but does leave its mark on your mouth as it bitters the palate with some nice flavor.

Aroma fake orange, Appearance orange, clear, white foam, Taste light sweetness, lightly bitter, medium bitterness, Palate medium body, Overall to me there is a unnatural orange flavor that is not doing it for me. I am a fan of the grapefruit and pineapple but not this one. I would not suggest this beer to a friend.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2015 12oz can with 11/5/15 code date. Appearance: Golden and slightly hazy, with a thick white foam cap. Aroma: Intense mix of melon, grapefruit, pineapple, grass, and resin. Taste: Light bready malt that quickly turns to sharp bitterness and dank, resinous, earthy hop flavors. Grapefruit and grassiness is there, but very low. Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with a medium-high carbonation Finish: Seems to balance well on the finish, with only a slight lingering bitterness. It does leave a sticky resin on the tongue. Overall: Well done west coast IPA that has a great aroma, with a dominant hop bitterness that doesnt overpower thru the finish. Fairly light malt base that lets the hops shine but still remains balanced.

Bottle. Amber, small off-white head. Aroma malts, citruses, hops. Taste first sweet, tropical fruits mix, then turning into a nice long happy finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer pours out a pale orange with a white head and lots of bubbles. Aromas of weed, grapefruit, and alcohol. I like the flavor a lot more, waves of every kinds of citrus fruit I can think of. Some sweet and slightly bready malt lies underneath. There is a lingering orange zest and bitter aftertaste. Delicious and refreshing, it showcases what you can do with hop aromatics and flavors over hop bitterness.

Flaska bishops marina med päronen - doftar otroligt friskt. Mörkgul med vitt skum och lätt dimmig. Tydlig men behaglig beska. Smakar lite blodapelsin. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
