San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Bottle but drank from a mug. Unfortunate. Great beer. Aroma is citrus sweet. Fruity ipa, but stays true to hop heavy ipa style. Finishes nice

Draught/Growler. Took one taste to know this would be good. Enjoying the great floral and citrus flavor, grapefruit. Delicious.

Copper color. Somewhat frothy head. Aroma has strong grapefruit, pine, caramel. Some tropical fruit as well, like mango. Bitter like grapefruit pith (white part). Body is on the lighter side. Finishes off-dry, fairly clean. Very drinkable.

Draught at Blue Monk. Deep copper, with an off white foam. Huge notes of citrus and fresh pine fill the nose, and lead to a bready malt profile. Very bitter with bright acidity and amedium caramel sweetness. Very well balanced, long bitter finish, full bodied. Excellent effort.

Not available in Oregon and was happy to try. Sweet on the nose with a good amount of balancing citrus. Taste is fantastic and a little less hoppy than expected. Easily session worthy. Taking a sixer home. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle pours medium-dark yellow with white head. Aroma pine with slight citrus. Taste initial malt sweetness replaced by citrus and pine. Clean brief finish of citrus and pine. Full palate. Alcohol not evident.

I am not a huge IPA guy but this is a tasty well made IPA.

Bomber poured into pint glasses. Pours a clear amber color with a nice white head and solid lacing through the glass. Smell is resin, pine, a bit of grapefruit, and slight alcohol. Taste is again with the resin, juicy grapefruit, and again with the alcohol. Slightly oily finish, but still enjoyable. Note: there were 2 enjoy by dates on the bottle, so this quite possibly could be older. EDIT: had a second bottle with and enjoy by date of 07/11/13 and was much better.

Aroma of dank fruits and sweet fruity malt as well. Crisp looking orange color, not quite clear. It’s very bitter, yet has lingering sweet tropical fruit flavors all around. Heavier body, packs a wallop, but is well balanced and approachable for a heavy duty IPA. I’ve never eaten a sculpin, although it looks interesting.

22oz bomber. Pours a bright gold/orange color with a frothy white head. Aroma has a strong hop presence of citrus, pine, and tropical fruits. Taste has lots of citrus, and pine. Slightly resinous up front, and lots of grapefruit bitterness follows in the finish.
