San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Surpringly light. The gold of a rich lager. Nice maltiness. Malt lingers. Hop bitterness is aggressive but not harsh. Very good.

Bottle from DandyWolfFloyd, thank you sir! Pours a slightly hazy golden hue with a white head. Aromas of citrus peel and some nice floral notes. Flavor is grapefruit peel at first with a nice resinous hop character in the finish. This beer deserves the reputation it has for sure. A very nice hoppy IPA. Definitely interested in trying others from this brewery!

Smell: Ruby Red Grapefruit, orange, citrus rind, and a touch of pine. Hints of tropical fruit. Pineapple makes a big appearance as it warms. Just a slight touch of booze. Very inviting. Taste: Lots of sweet grapefruit up front, but remains present throughout. Wave of hop bitterness and big pine comes next, with a finish that reminds me of biting into bitter grapefruit rind. Oily bitterness and dryness lingers afterward.

UPDATED: APR 5, 2015 Bottled on March 3 and tasted on May 24...The aroma of this beer poured into a stout glass from a bomber is tantalizing and fresh, bringing apricot, mango and a nice strong hops. The soft, off-white head is small but tenacious, clinging to the sides of my glass and a nice contrast to the soft amber of the liquid inside. A median bitter, but long lasting on my tongue and nicely fizzy without feeling over carbonated. This is a most pleasant brew, nicely balanced, fruity but not too sweet, hoppy bitter and evenly balanced in all the experiences. Another go-to brew on my favorites list!

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2015 Very beautiful beer. Clear, nice head and good retention. Aroma is dominated by tropical fruits which also come through in the taste. Dry and quite bitter aftertaste. Creamy body with just the right amount of carbonation. Very solid IPA!
