Ballast Point has an unusual affinity for intense spice. I’m having a difficult time thinking of a style that they haven’t remixed with hot peppers or spices at one point or another. Despite the inherent weirdness that goes with that decision, it’s hard to deny that they almost always do a pretty good job. There’s something noble about that. With their Serrano Pepper version of Pale Ale, Ballast Point wisely adjusts the amount of spiciness to the size of the beer. This golden, average-ABV ale has just the right amount of vegetal spicy character without seeming gimmicky or gross. It’s a standard grassy, earthy hoppy beer with prominent pepper flavor. Odd for sure, but exceptionally well-made. SudsMcDuff (8462) - .....Manchester United.........., Texas, USA - MAY 8, 2016
pretty tame effort, the base is diluted, hops taste very grassy, and there’s a pizza hut pepper style flavor throughout .. yellow, light foam, no substance .. didn’t enjoy it, ballast point are phoning their beers in lately . .. . Nice beard!
Thanks! I grow it because my face is gross jeremytoni (3082) - Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA - APR 11, 2016
Much more paletable than the habenero. Light spicy flavor with a quick finish. Poured an amber color with a small amount of head. Steve_0 (3745) - Denver, Colorado, USA - OCT 18, 2015
Draft at GABF 2015. Pour is clear golden with a big white head and good lacing. Earthy, spicy, slightly hoppy, biscuit, green peppers, and a touch of smoke in the aroma. Taste is spicy hoppy, lemony, really earthy, pepper notes and a ton of spice on the backend without being overwhelming. Medium body with high carbonation. Really tasty pepper beer and one of my favorites of the fest. cubs (10675) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - OCT 10, 2015
GABF 2015. Multiple pours. Pretty clear golden yellow appearance with a cream colored head. Light smoke, pepper, corn, and lemon in the nose. Pretty damn spicy flavor without the nasty vegetable notes. A little black peppery.

Draft. Pours gold with a white head. Pepper base, with moderate heat and.... not much else. The pepper kind of covers everything else up. Not overly hot/spicy, I’ve certainly had way worse pepper beers. radagast83 (8191) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - AUG 18, 2015
Draft at the Tasting Room. Poured a clear golden yellow color with a small white head. Aroma was some light green pepper, some spicy chili pepper notes. Flavor was an immediate spicy character. Still retains a nice light hop character. SinH4 (5538) - Garching b. Mnchen, GERMANY - JUL 6, 2015
Taster at the brewery. Aroma is spicy, not too hoppy. Some chilies even. Aggressive spiciness in the taste. Rather light body, slight bitterness and hot finish. Neat! slowrunner77 (12455) - Reno, Nevada, USA - FEB 14, 2015
BP generally really nails the pepper beers and this is no exception. Not as exciting as some but a nice hoppy pale ale with a moderate to strong touch of heat and pepper flavor (more so than in the nose). Good brew... Christpuncher (3188) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 25, 2014
A very bitter pale ale with a spicy kick. Not hoppy and smells malty. Puts light yellow with a white head. Had out if a bootevat home.
