The pour is a dark amber color with an off-white head. The wine gives the beer a very fruity aroma. Lots of grape and red fruit notes with plenty of oak, too. Very sweet from all the wine as well as the natural sweetness of the brown sugar, caramel, and toffee notes. The flavor is slightly oxidized with a hint of chocolate. Good caramel and brown sugar and tons of red wine and red grape flavor. bb (9519) - Alamo, California, USA - APR 12, 2010

On tap at Father’s Office Santa Monica. Slightly hazy very deep Ruby with a one finger beige head, fair retention. Big tobacco bourbon nose with some caramel toffee notes--only getting a hint of red wine. Ah, there you are. Definite red wine going in the flavor, along with a little bourbon. The wine dries out the caramel and toffee notes very well. I thought it’d taste like Angel’s Share by the aroma, but the Syrah changed it considerably. Dark dry fruits--namely red grapes--are aplenty. Not getting as much leathery tobacco, but is still present. Semi-dry with bitterness at a 3 that lingers. Some boozy alcohol noted warming my throat and belly. Big full syrupy body with light prickly carbonation. Very good. The Syrah did get stronger in the aroma as it warmed up.
