Thick and syrupy. Raisins and caramel in the body. Spicy and hoppy and full-bodied, but just a tad uneven. Dry and clean finish. Sweet but not cloying. Very good barleywine. iowaherkeye (2703) - Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, USA - FEB 21, 2010
On tap at Father’s Office Santa Monica. Slightly hazy very deep Ruby with a one finger beige head, fair retention. Big tobacco bourbon nose with some caramel toffee notes--only getting a hint of red wine. Ah, there you are. Definite red wine going in the flavor, along with a little bourbon. The wine dries out the caramel and toffee notes very well. I thought it’d taste like Angel’s Share by the aroma, but the Syrah changed it considerably. Dark dry fruits--namely red grapes--are aplenty. Not getting as much leathery tobacco, but is still present. Semi-dry with bitterness at a 3 that lingers. Some boozy alcohol noted warming my throat and belly. Big full syrupy body with light prickly carbonation. Very good. The Syrah did get stronger in the aroma as it warmed up.

Tap at Ballast Point. Pours a deeper hazy brownish amber with a medium creamy/bubbly off white head. Aroma of dark fruits, toffee, wine notes, tobacco, vanilla and woody notes. Flavor
of oak, tobacco, dark fruits, toffee, nuts, wine and vanilla. skmikeg (1826) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 5, 2013
On tap at Old Grove. Pours a dark cola brown with tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, grapes, brown sugar, and oak. Taste is similar with a lot of winey notes and oaky notes. Has a medium body with a slighty slighty creamy mouthfeel and a semi dry, semi sweet, oaky finish. Overall, a very interesting and pretty tasty barlywine that makes good use of wine barrels. On tap at the Morena location. Yum, yum, and emeffing YUM. Nose is all wine and rich malt. Lotsa goodness all over the place. Taste is super sweet and fruity for a moment, then rich and malty. Too many things going on in the moment to realize them all. Lovely brew. Itried to talk them into filling my growler, but I couldn’t finish the deal.

Pours murky, red/brown with a thin offwhite head, some lace. Smells sweet and caramel malty with some fruit and grapes and slight wood sweetness as well. Tastes fruity and woody and malty, Nice, clean oak notes with wine grapes and a solid, sweet malt backbone. Best BA brew I’ve had from BP. Medium/full body, good carbonation. anders37 (26625) - Malmö, SWEDEN - APR 13, 2013
Draft @the brewery. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a small tan head. Has a fruity malty dry wine, raisin and dark fruit aroma. Sweetish malty spicy woody wine and dark fruit flavor. Has a sweetish malty woody wine finish with hints of dark fruit. tokyogoat (1503) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 7, 2010
A decent offering, well worth the money and i’d definitely get it again. Just didn’t knock my socks off. High levels of oxidation, very raisony, more so than I remembered from the regular offering. The oxidation actually isnt that bad though, its fitting.
