COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by the hoppier West Coast BarleyWines in the late 80s and early 90s. This American Barley Wine is full of rich roasted caramel flavors and the spice and aroma from many hop additions. Eighty Lovibond Crystal Malt helps create a light mahogany color and dry hopping with Cascade Hops add to the many layers of flavors in this ever-evolving ale. When Three Sheets Barley Wine is fresh, it almost leans into the Double/Imperial Red category. Cellar it for a year, expect the taste of the hop bitterness and hop aroma to back off and the rich melanoidin sugars, from a two hour boil, step forward caressing you with a complex malty smoothness.

Looks like maple syrup to me. Hints of burnt sugar and cake frosting in the head, the burnt candy thing makes up the body with some of that jager smoothly blended in there.

Served from tap at the brewery. Appearance is clear bodied amber hue with no real head. The aroma and flavors of this barley wine are more English tasting with the malt profile. A nice toffee and caramel flavor adds the sweetness to this brew. A good barley wine that has some unique notes.

A damn fine beer, I would drink it until my liver gave way. Nothing offensive at all, just beer bliss. My favorite of all the 3 sheets variations, very hoppy, bold, sweet, bitter, really a complex beer that i think is at its peak right off the bat.

On-cask at Stone 11/16/07. Pours a reddish brown color with a thick white head that leaves lots of spider web lace down the glass. Red fruit and alcohol on the nose. I get the same kind of red fruit taste that I got on the nose, a good bit of malt on the palate, and of course some booze. Surprisingly thin, but not too thin. Subdued but still vibrant carbonation. Awesome beer. The best brew Ive ever had on cask.

Draft at Hamiltons. Dark brown color, almost black. Aroma is mild grapefruit, citrus, and roasted malt. Flavor has a lot of roasted malt, coffee, and some malt bitterness. Alexanderj thought 3.5ish.

Valley Brew tasting Feb 2007 - Aroma and flavor are sweet caramel with sharp piney hops. Palate is sweet and tart. Not too complex but still very tasty. Probably suffering from palate fatigue at this point. I would like to try it again.

On tap at Stone. Smells sharp and spicy. Tastes hot of alcohol, like it needs to settle down a bit. Bubblegum? Spicy and bitter, like aspirin a bit, but still really good.

Enjoyed this on tap at the brewery. Brimming with sweet fall spices red apples and citrus. Lots of creamy malts and bitter hops on the finish along with an aggressive amount of alcohol. Certainly one of Ballast Points better beers.
