On tap at Stone. Deep reddish brown with a fizzy white head. Great hoppy aroma of maple, pine, and cedar. Decent malty backbone with some cereal character and a good hoppy pine and citrus taste with alcoholic warmth in the finish. mkobes (2142) - paramus, New Jersey, USA - DEC 29, 2007
PP Strong Ale fest. Deep orange and copper in color with a nice off white fluffy head. Malty toffee bready aroma. Earthy hoppy toffee caramel flavor. Figs, raisins, dates and oak notes. Medium bodied. Finish is roasty. Very drinkable. Enjoyable. paytoplay (146) - , California, USA - NOV 29, 2008
Cask at Hamiltons SD. Odd color, but very complex nose with a wild over rip muddled fruit but comes together for a nice finish. Barley wines can be a bit much for me sometimes, this held it together. Cask conditioning may have helped add some texture. Cask froth stuck around. Just lots going on and this brew stands out, something I like to see. nbutler11 (1267) - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - DEC 7, 2008
Enjoyed this on tap at the brewery. Brimming with sweet fall spices red apples and citrus. Lots of creamy malts and bitter hops on the finish along with an aggressive amount of alcohol. Certainly one of Ballast Points better beers. sauceyhops (104) - carlsbad, California, USA - JAN 13, 2009
On tap at Stone Brewery. Dark brown pour with a good 1 finger head. Smell is of dark fruits, caramel, and a delicate hint of hops. The mouthfeel is very smooth and the flavors blend together beautifully. Dark fruits, caramel, and roasty malts with a gentle hop finish. You can really tell that this is a blend of some older barleywines as it has really had a chance to mellow and smooth out. Great beer.

A damn fine beer, I would drink it until my liver gave way. Nothing offensive at all, just beer bliss. My favorite of all the 3 sheets variations, very hoppy, bold, sweet, bitter, really a complex beer that i think is at its peak right off the bat.

Dig It. Pours deep dark brown with a small brown head. Nose is wood, pine sap, little caramel and wheat bread. Taste is sweet, but has a great bitter ending. Mouthfeel is crisp and sticky, body is heavy and the finish is long. DocJitsu (2004) - Pensacola, Florida, USA - MAR 30, 2013
Pours a copper brown with a light taupe head. It has a caramel and grapefruit nose. Caramel and chocolate flavors with some cherry and citrusy notes. The finish is sweet despite the competing esters. The mouthfeel is perfect for the style. It accentuates the flavors and bouquet perfectly. mensch (289) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - JUN 7, 2013
Memory of taster @ the brewery. Aroma is heavy on the burnt caramel and molasses. Smooth and strong. Arf! skmikeg (1826) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 29, 2013
Pours a murky dark amber with a one finger tan head which fades to nice lacing. Aroma is of toasted sweet malts, burnt caramel, molasses, and dark fruits. Taste is similar to the aroma but has some nice medium hops and nice piney notes. Has a medium-full body with a creamy mouthfeel and a semi bitter, medium long finish. Overall, a tasty barley wine that hides its ABV very well.
