Nearly clear old copper color with a 1 finger, creamy beige head that has good retention and leaves some lacing. Aroma is big on resinous and deep citrus hops, some earthiness, lots of dark caramel, a little toffee and some booziness on a big whiff. Flavor has a big fruity sweetness up front, dark caramel, toffee, earthy tea, woody notes, lots of pine and a little burnt citrus. Pretty heavy, chewy palate, fairly light, but sharp and blanketing carbonation, slightly astringent, somewhat boozy finish. Pretty good stuff, a little on the thick and heavy side after a hot and muggy summer day, but on my porch on a cool fall night with a nice cigar, maybe after a big, rich slab of beef it would be heavenly.

Solid red hop monster, a deep, sugary mix of caramel and toffee malts and a vicious amount of piney, resinous IBU vitriol. A bit of a one-trick pony, juxtaposing the gooey sweet center with a bone-dry, endlessly bitter back end without developing much other complexity in the flavors, but both sides are done well, and the creamy, slick texture’s absolutely amazing. (Hard to grasp how a beer this smooth could be 10%.) I do wish the hops brought forth a little more citrus, maybe some dankness to play off the caramel, but damned if this pint isn’t disappearing fast as hell despite my issues. Caramel nose with a touch of booze, and the appearance is gorgeous, a deep red-orange with a neverending beige head and multiple strata of lace. Tasty beer. Pours a deep reddish brown color with a thin off white head. Aroma of resinous pine, caramel, and dried dark fruits. Flavors were rich and malty with loads of resinous piney hops. Lots of caramel, dried dark fruits, toasted cracker, a hint of smokiness, and some sweetness. Good carbonation, full-bodied mouthfeel with a slightly slick finish. Well balanced, very clean/seamless beer. Alcohol is hardly noticeable. Excellent.

Bottle. Holy crap, this is a BIG beer from all angles. Thick and ruddy with a sturdy head. The aroma is downright scary, rife with some woodsy hops and malt.

On tap in Greenville SC in a Gouden Carolus glass.
Clear dark amber body with a large, semi-durable beige head.
Aroma: hops, toffee, soft ripe fruits.
Flavor: as the aroma suggests, this is fruity. Also boozy. Typical (or a bit higher) bitterness for style.
Feel: the body is medium; medium+ carbonation. Mild alcohol warmth.

Poured from a bomber bottled on the 270th day of 2016, so just about 5 months old. Reddish amber with a good sized off white head. Sweet caramel nose, taste was bitter sweet. Medium bodied with a strong bitter finish. Very nice Imperial Red.
