COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Two of the worlds oldest beverages join forces to conquer your palate. Victory at Sea embodies the art of masterful brewing by infusing a velvety Imperial Porter with pure vanilla flavor and specially-selected, hand roasted coffee. The addition of cold brewed coffee to the beer lends a subtle roasted flavor to this robust imperial porter, blending perfectly with rich vanilla and caramel undertones. By uniting two San Diego brewing traditions, Caffe Calabria freshly brewed coffee and Ballast Point beer, we have successfully created an artisanal masterpiece.

Dark as the sea bottom producing a sizable head. Strong aromas of coffee and toasted vanilla beans. Full body with excellent carbonation. Copious amounts of roasted coffee and cocoa drowned the senses while a neon vanilla flashes life into a lifeless Davey Jones. This is a meal to be rationed sparingly. I hold my chalice high in honor of those who were victorious at sea. Arrhh! Trumpola!

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2012 Simply one of the best out there. As expected the nose is dominated by fresh roasted coffee, a dash of herb-like woodiness and the subtle presence of vanilla. Pours black with some brown hues if held to the light. Off-white foam bordering on a light tan. Taste matches the aromas. Up front there is a lively dose of roasted coffee with a dash of chocolate. The coffee really livens up your palate. The finish is full of dark chocolates and earthy hops which balance this beer nicely. Feels like a porter should on the palate. Full bodied but not syrupy, nice carbonation. Get your hands on this, it is amazing. One of my favorite beers.

This is the best imperial Porter Ive tasted. Its big, bold, sweet, and marries the flavors of coffee and vanilla very well. I cant say enough good things about this beer. My only complaint is that all you can tase after this beer is sweet vanilla and coffee.

Comes out of the bottle a rich sable just a skeezix above black with a thick and fine-bubbled tan head. Rich, smoky aroma has notes of sweet chocolate, fine coffee, vanilla and caramel and just a hint of molasses. Mouth-filling flavor delights the palate with roast malt, chocolate, nutty, vanilla, coffee and caramel tones with more than a hint of bitter, woody hops. Each sip seems to be subtly different. Its a little like drinking cold quality coffee that has a kick like an angry mule. Smooth, rich texture has a firm tingle that persists; finish is smoky, hoppy and a little chocolate-sweet. I havent given out a perfect score in some time. Love the bottle - Ill keep it and use it as a Halloween decoration. (Yes, I use beer bottles for Halloween deco!)

I am hesitant to give a beer a higher rating then on my favorites but that is exactely what I have done. This is just like drinking a chocolate vanilla frappuccino made out of awesome beer. Unbelievable a great porter all the way around. Hope I can get more of it

Poured from a 22. Aroma has a strong but pleasant coffee aroma with hints of vanilla. Flavor has a strong but not overpowering coffee taste to it. It is sweet and creamy, almost like a coffee ice cream. After taste is not bitter at all. Very pleasant and well balanced.

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2017 This beer pours a dark brown almost black with a medium khaki head that left some good lacing around the glass. The aroma is strong! I pick up coffee, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, and some oak. This aroma is so sweet and inviting. The taste is overwhelming dark roasted bitter coffee with some hints of vanilla, burnt caramel, some oakiness, and chocolate. It is a great mixture of bitterness up front and sweetness on the backside. For being 10% abv it is hidden quite well and the drinkability is quite high. The mouthfeel is on the medium to heavy side. Some beers dont live up to their hype, however, this beer exceeds its hype. This is a world class beer and a must try!
