Pours a dark brown to black with a thin tan head. Light carbonation with some lacing. Light aroma of roasted malts. A tad thin with some dark malts and a lightly smokey finish. Taste is somewhat earthy with some woody notes. Not bad but not as enjoyable as I had hoped for. notalush (5910) - Lakewood, Colorado, USA - FEB 19, 2003
Dark, nearly black, no head, no lacing. It has an aroma of alcohol and roasted malts. Somewhere between a light and medium body. Tastes very sweet and malty, with a tad bit of hop bitterness...coffee flavor, evident alcohol. Not a bad beer, and it's cheap price may get me to buy it again some day. brewboy (152) - AUSTRALIA - MAR 8, 2003
Best beer we tasted on tap. Usually you bring your own jar (as in jamjar). This one is dark in colour, but only slightly malty on the tastebuds. rickgordon (3878) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - AUG 2, 2003
Black. Off-white head. Discrete aroma of licorice and coffee. Long lasting favor of burnt coffee and licorice. Sweet. Not fully flavored but ok. HighGravity (926) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - APR 13, 2004
(Best by 11/12/2004) I haven't had many Russian beers that I have like, but I am willing to try this moderately touted porter. The beer is appropriately dark with an excellent head and lace work. The nose hits me with a good does of licorice, chocolate, and coffee. The palate is medium with a slight roastiness that rounds the beer out nicely. The finish is like an ice coffee. Best Russian beer to date.

Very black, ok head.
Earthy, slighly sour roasted and smoked malt flavors.
coffee and chokolate aftertaste. robertjm (895) - Albany, California, USA - NOV 15, 2004
Bought this one at the spur of the moment. Good body. Good flavor. Not overpowering. Might call it a "lawnmower beer" version of a porter? its only $1.79 at Bevmo so I’ll probably buy it again! humulus (339) - Salem, Missouri, USA - MAR 1, 2005
Pours as black as stout with a palamino head. Aroma is light and difficult to detect, but with subtle smokiness and deep alcohol tones. Flavor is very raw and malty with little complexity and a light molasses/sorgham quality. Some chocolate notes peak through. Hops are nearly undetectable. Palate is smooth and rather undefined. Overall, raw and plain. cfranz (261) - Acton, Massachusetts, USA - APR 29, 2005
Pours black, with a small off-white head. Not a bad porter, though it does has that "strained through cardboard" aftertaste endemic to many Russian beers. Definitely has a strong kick to it. I can imagine myself drinking this at a kiosk on Nevsky Prospekt. turbo (1271) - Arizona, USA - MAY 12, 2005
Bottle poured black with a smallish head.
Light aroma of roasty malts.
Flavor is a bit thin, but the roast and chocolate hints are evident along with a metalic aftertaste.
