A strong lager beer with a taste close to classic lager varieties. The flavor is light and there is a suggestion of malt, together with sweetish notes and mild hops bitterness.

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2006 The aroma has rubbing alcohol and what seems like rice malt. The appearance is pale gold. The flavor is like so many malt liquors out there. It is metallic, sweet, and sour. The palate is thin. This beer actually gave me a stomach ache. I dont think this junk could even be sold as a 40oz bomber at 7/11 for $1.99 a bottle. I couldnt even finish the bottle, a complete drain pour.

Oh yeah.. pop the top and get a whiff of the Steel Reserver, er, Olde English, or ... If this was advertised as a malt liquor and a fraction of the price and in a larger bottle, it would be rather decent. This ones for the malt fans...

16.9 oz bottle - How does the same brewer that makes an excellent porter make this beer? This malt liquor pours pale yellow and fizzy with a one finger white head. It smells of grain and booze. It tastes of grain and booze. Theres virtually no hops presence. Its thin and has little to nothing in the way of redeeming qualities. The average rating here was higher than I expected. The high ABV isnt because its good for the style or any other reason except to get you drunk faster. If thats all you want, have a couple shots. Dont buy this beer.

UPDATED: JUL 17, 2007 **New comments 7/17/07- This is awful. Almost like sugar water. A ho hum beer. Each sip gave me a different thought. Do I continue? Do I dump it. Russians should stick to vodka. This beer wasnt terrible, but the fact that there is so much better, make it hard to justify buying again.

Bottle. Pale golden color, decent size white head. I was expecting more of a pale ale or lager taste, but this was all alcohol malt liquor taste. Too strong.

My first Russian beer. The "Devyatka". How cute. Pale golden colour with a white head. How original. The nose is dust and alcohol. How nice. The taste is alcohol, some bitterness that might be from hops, and, umm. Malt. Yes. How...nah. Ive ran out of things to say. Almost drainpour material.

Huge white head over copper body with ongoing carbonation. Faint sweetish caramelly aroma with buttery notes. Taste is soft, sweet, buttery caramel, but buttery in a good way. Faintly fruity. Soft, fruty aftertaste. Faintly stale. Decent, but nothing special. (0.5l bottle.)

Bottle @ Delirium Cafe, Brussels. 28/05/06. A little sweet as expected but not offensive surprisingly. Alcohol on the aroma, smooth sweet lager taste with a touch of hops late. Was hoping for the porter just wasnt sure which No it was.

Mom said it best, "Its sweet!" Too sweet for me. Well thats where all the alcohol comes from. Yellow in color. Aroma of a barnyard, a clean one though. White fluffy head. Not much to it, just sweet. AND STRONG.

UPDATED: OCT 5, 2008 Bottle. White pepper, alcohol and barley aroma. Light yellow color with small head. A strong grainy malt and alcohol flavor with a slight hops finish initiallly that crescendos into a strong metallic bitteness. This is closer to crap malt liquor (as it was earlier categorized).
