RATINGS: 850   WEIGHTED AVG: 2.19/5   EST. CALORIES: 240   ABV: 8%
A strong lager beer with a taste close to classic lager varieties. The flavor is light and there is a suggestion of malt, together with sweetish notes and mild hops bitterness.
Ingredients: water, light barley malt, maltose syrup and hops.
Produced since 1998. 16.5

This beer is very strong with an alcoholy taste and palate which is actually a preference of mine. I got the impression that this strong beer was heavily geared towards the Russian palatte and that they would appreciate its strong vodka overtones. I liked it alot. It was light brown with an average head and a strong alcohol with good beer flavorings.

50th strong lager, dedicated to Dan Brown who needs to rate more filth. 500ml bottle. Pours dark gold with a medium head. Aroma is sweet rubbery orange. Taste has rubbery corn to start with orange on the finish. Some alcohol on the aftertaste.

Ive gone out on a limb here with a Russian beer and a strong lager at that. Im not saying Russia cant brew beer or craft beer. But Im concerned about what is in it. On first taste its very malty and you can taste the 8% ABV. Im guessing this is a beer to have to follow vodka chasers sitting around a card table with your comrades on a Saturday night.

500ml can (thanks suurjuust). Clear pale golden color. Huge size, white head, stays. Malty, alcohol, acetone, berries in aroma. Malty, walnut, alcohol, acetone in taste. Acetone and alcohol in aftertaste. Horrible brew. Nope!

450ml can. Pale yellow beer, almost no head. Nose is very macro, malt and grains, some vague perfume. Flavor is nasty macro grains with dishrag floral notes and grains. Euuuurgh.

The reason why this beer gets so many bad reviews is that it does not age well in the bottle or the can. If you travel to Russia, especially Saint Petersburg where it is brewed, and have a fresh bottle, it is an excellent beer. Yes, it is high in alcohol, but it doesnt taste boozy. It is well balanced with good malt and yeast ratios and just the right amount of hops. If you are looking at inventory thats old, just skip it. This beer is indeed terrible after it has sat on a shelf for months.

Bottle from WB Stores, West Bromwich. Echoes of Russians drinking bubble bath; not a conducive image for happy Xmas drinking. Initially this tastes a little limp. Luckily, the strong streak of sickly anti-freeze booze arrives and saves the day. Average for the genre.

Been a while since I had this one, but memorable enough. It tastes like it was transferred to the bottle from a can that was already partially dissolved from contact with the Baltika.
