Bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of cocoa, earthiness, noble hops, grassiness and light citrus. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of cocoa, earthiness, noble hops and a hint of citrus with a smooth dry moderatly bitter lingering earthy cocoa finish. drowland (9184) - Georgia, USA - FEB 11, 2013
Late December, 2012. 12oz bottle from HyVee Milan, I believe - or maybe something my dad snagged for me. Deep brown pour with a small khaki head. Light hop aroma with coffee and plenty of alcohol, oddly enough. Coffee and hop in the flavor as well, with bitter and acidic roasted malts. Meh. wlajwl (7205) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - DEC 21, 2012
Aroma is pine, grapefruit and spicy. The flavor is grapefruit, fruit, dark bread and a tangy/bitter finish. heemer77 (5361) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - NOV 29, 2012
Bottle. Black body with a light tan head. A leathery nose with some citrus. There is also some caramel sweetness. This tastes of oranges and tobacco. There is also some bit of toffee and a little bit of bread crust. A medium carbonated rather thin body. A decent beer overall. CanIHave4Beers (4238) - Pouring Bus, Iowa, USA - DEC 18, 2012
Hy-Vee exclusive Black IPA? so absurd it’s ridiculous.

Pours a very dark brown color with a tight medium sized head.
The aroma is leafy and earthy hops, lightly fruity and very woody.
The flavor is bitter with some molasses, roasty and fruity, mildly astringent but otherwise clean.
Nothing I’d really care to have much of but I can’t say I didn’t enjoy the bottle.
Poured from 12oz bottle, pours a reddish brown, not black at all, light brown head that sticks around for a while and some lacing, aroma has a slight amount of hops and citrus, a little bit of chocolate and malt, flavor has a slight chocolate touch on the front end with a bitterness in the finish, doesn’t seem very balanced at all, too bitter in the finish without the roastiness of the malt and chocolate, ugh. fidelis83 (2535) - Clinton, Iowa, USA - DEC 10, 2012
Dark brown pour with a thin, creamy beige head. Aroma is earthy, nutty, orange slice candy, planty, caramel, cereal, herbal hops and light toffee. Flavor is caramel, roast, more orange slice candy, pine, baguette, medicinal notes and light mocha. Light to medium body with a slick entry, light but sharp carbonation, leading to a dry, slightly oily finish. Meh. boozedude (2229) - Des Moines, Iowa, USA - JAN 9, 2013
pours super deep clear brown, brown head, aroma of nut and raisen, some cream..has sort of a tinny start, but smooths into some hazelnut, some roasted coffe bean, hopps, not bad GranvilleTim (1857) - Granville, Illinois, USA - DEC 26, 2012
Deep reddish-brown pour with an off-white head. Aroma is roasted malt, sweet fruity hops. Taste is nice roasted malt, nice hop balance. Good aftertaste and nice lacing. jmohno (1679) - Iowa, USA - NOV 26, 2012
Well the 12 oz bottle says Stevens Point,WI not Nebraska.Pour is a dark mahogony very clear, with slight head.
Aroma is some chocolate, mineral a little sweetness, and some mild hops.Hard to point out hops but I notice some herbal spicey.
Smooth chocolate and roast, good solid hop presence ( notice herbal/earthy), some slick and very smooth, finishes a nice spice/piney bittering. Has a good finish and good taste overall. I like.Pretty nice.
Smooth chocolate roast with a mellow sweetness that works well with the smooth spicey piney bittering.
