In 1996, the brewery innovates and launches Barbãr, ale with honey.
Born of the ancestral know-how of a family brewery, Barbar beer will please you with its malt taste and subtle flavour of honey. It is brewed using water drawn from artesian wells on the site of the brewery, at Quenast, a small village to the south of Brussels. This area is well-known for the quality and the diversity of its beers.
Barbar beer is prepared from a secret and harmonious mixture of barley malts, hops and honey carefully selected by our Master Brewer. The traditional brewing method, associated with our unique strain of yeast, and the secondary fermentation in the bottle, gives Barbar the authentic flavour of a very special ale.

Drinkable, but bit boring, some honeyish, floral impact, malty. Moderate sweet all the way. Bit unbalanced

The honey factor is quite strong indeed--while it hides the abv, it also dominates so much that all the other features, even malt, are drowned out. Drinkable and interesting but not nearly a Belgian highlight (11.2 oz bottle, Brussels)

UPDATED: NOV 21, 2017 Bottle at home. Pours a orange colour with a small white head. Tastes sweet, but not too sweet. Tastes bitter, but not too bitter. It makes you feel warm inside, however, the honey smoothly covers the taste of alcohol. Together with its bottle and glass, this beer is an experience perfect for a cold autumn's night.

Pours clear Amber with thick white foamy head. Sweet malty strong ale, with clear honey undertones, and a lightly bitter hoppy finish, with honey lingering in the aftertaste. Well balanced and very drinkable.

0.33 l bottle from 'belgiuminabox.com', best before December 2017. Clear, amber with a thin, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, quite spicy, slightly yeasty and a little fruity aroma of caramel, honey, coriander, some clove and hints of citrus. Quite sweet, malty, rather spicy, slightly yeasty and a little fruity taste of caramel, lots of honey, coriander, vanilla, clove and a touch of citrus, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, rather spicy, slightly yeasty and a bit warming finish. Medium body, slightly creamy and moderately effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. A bit over the top, rather heavy on the honey and the coriander, not really quaffable. Not really my cup of tea.
