In 1996, the brewery innovates and launches Barbãr, ale with honey.
Born of the ancestral know-how of a family brewery, Barbar beer will please you with its malt taste and subtle flavour of honey. It is brewed using water drawn from artesian wells on the site of the brewery, at Quenast, a small village to the south of Brussels. This area is well-known for the quality and the diversity of its beers.
Barbar beer is prepared from a secret and harmonious mixture of barley malts, hops and honey carefully selected by our Master Brewer. The traditional brewing method, associated with our unique strain of yeast, and the secondary fermentation in the bottle, gives Barbar the authentic flavour of a very special ale.

Poured a clear light amber with a white head. Aroma of the honey and caramel malt. Medium body, the flavour is overly sweet and a bit cloying.

0.33 bottle @ Leijuva Lahna, Helsinki. I don’t like honey and therefore I don’t like honey beers either. This was more drinkable than the others. Taste is still more close to strong mead than beer and quite sweet. Could be better if it was spiced.

A: Dark amber with a medium white head. N: Caramel, sweet. T: Caramel again. Plenty of honey, but not sweet. In fact, it finishes quite dry. Brilliant combination of flavours. P: Medium O: Loved it!

A common beer found in many pubs around Netherlands and Belgium. Nonetheless a great beer for one of those times where you don’t want to go searching and need something decent.

330ml bottle at the Post Office Vaults, Birmingham. Clear carbonated gold with a foamy white head. Sweet grain and honey aroma, with a faint touch of alcohol. Distinctly more palate when first tasted, less sweet than the aroma and more grainy. Pleasant, slightly thick mouthfeel. Microscopic floral notes.

Nice golden beer with a medium body. Refreshing for on a summer eve. One of my personal favorites.
