Draft. Chocolate, roasty malt, piney orange hops, and light acidic aroma. Black brown with a large tan head. Roasty chocolate, piney hops, and sweet orange flavor. Medium body, moderate carbonation. HighWine (959) - Whalezbro, Illinois, USA - MAY 22, 2013
Tap flight at the brewery. Dark chocolate brown, nearly black in color. Egg shell head is appears to be sprayed onto the glass as the beer recedes. Very pretty lace. Aroma is caramel up front followed by vegetal hops. On the second whiff the hops become fruity and remind me of Fruit Loops cereal. Taste is coffee roast and fruity hops that typify the fragrance. Line bitterness lingers in the end. This beer seems me more of a hoppy porter toe than Black IPA which I guess is a good thing since I don’t care for most Black IPAs. Creamy mouthfeel makes me think porter, too. BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - NOV 22, 2012
Backlogged rating: Pours a very deep brown with a light beige frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of mango, dragonfruit and starfruit with a heavy roasted and charred note. Some aspirin like vapours as well. The taste is quite fruity and tropical with a moderate dark malt character is support. Actually not all that bitter with light coffee tones and faint resiny notes as well. The mouth feel is ashy and lively. Nice to have a Black IPA that is not sweet nor like a stout. I did not get the chocolate like other reviewers did. If the profile was a tad cleaner I could dig a full growler of this. Will revisit again! ucusty (2691) - raleigh, North Carolina, USA - OCT 8, 2012
Tap at bare hands. Dark pour with a thick chestnut colored head. Aroma is chocolate and tropical fruits. Very nice flavor follows suite. With a lingering coffee finish MrBunn (2826) - The Wet Side of a Dry Town, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 13, 2012
UPDATED: JUN 15, 2012 On tap at Bare Hands. Body is a deep brown with a decent head and aromas that remind me of Citra, but barman says "No Citra here..." In addition, it has an almost minty herbal presence to the nose. Tropical fruit, a little resin, chocolate and citrus. The hops get lost a bit in the flavor, and it is a chocolate malt driven BIPA, but I like it.

On tap at Bare Hands. Wow. This was really awesome. Pitch black with a khaki head. Nose included some orange, pine, and mango. Taste was a little sweet and a lot of bitter all over. Palate is smooth, rich, easy enough to drink but plenty of complexity to savor. Hits the style right over the head. Awesome job on this. Seriously. For a brand new brewery, they have it together. Get some.
