I would agree with 'jackstraw' a little think to be an ale, But I still enjoyed it very much. Its a nice beer to have with a light meal. sweatyguido (4) - USA - AUG 12, 2005 does not count
My favorite of all the Barley Creek Beers. very flavorful, and goes really well with one of their buffalo burgers. some batches have more molasses than others, but overall well balanced raymow (1800) - Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 27, 2004
Much better than I expected it to be. It has a nice smokey brown flavor and a lighter than expected color. Also, a sweet and smokey aroma. I’m a fan - and now I see that it’s fairly local to boot. NYHarvey (2153) - New York, New York, USA - AUG 9, 2005
Nice malty aroma. Classic brown ale profile. Reddish brown with a quickly fading white head. Brown Ales never seem to be rated fairly. This is solid and way better than the 38 rating it has as I am rating it. Though slightly too sweet on the fruity side of the palate it is very nutty and malty from fore to finish. Very well done brown ale. Thanks to Lou18 for this. thehinge (297) - Nederland, Colorado, USA - AUG 22, 2005
This beer is a dark brown pour with a small white head, lingers awhile, too. Laces well. Aroma is very yeasty, bready. Sweet malty taste to it from front to finish.

Caramel and yeast aroma. Pours dark brown with a small off-white head. Sweet taste. Definitely caramel, nuts and maybe a little brown sugar in this one. I liked it very much. dirtymike (2016) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - DEC 5, 2005
Deep copper/light brown in color with a slight haze and a small off-white/light tan head.Aroma is of rasins, fruit with a mild sour/acidic tartness. Flavor is fruity,tangy/tart, with chocolate, nutty and roasted malt character. Finishes dry. tzakiel (81) - Virginia, USA - SEP 3, 2002
UPDATED: DEC 1, 2009 An excellent ale. I am glad I live so close to BCBC and can go for good and this ale! Volgon (2761) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - OCT 7, 2002
On tap GABF '02: Malts in the aroma, deep orange/brown color with a decent head. The rest of this rating is a bit incoherent with a "not h????" in there. Also an email address of my shift supervisor for next year's GABF that I'm working at. (Hey, it says so in my notes so it must be true!) Rated: 750 ml bottle. This is a good broan ale, with a slight head. It is malty, but seems a little on the sour side. Subdued hops, and a finish that is malty and a bit tart, with hints of black cherry. A complex beer.
