COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Black Dahlia® is our Belgian Strong Dark ale. This beer is brewed as an homage to the great Trappist holiday beers from Belgium. Brewed with Belgian Pils, Munich malt, a host of Belgian specialty grains, and a generous portion of dark Belgian candi sugar, this 11% ABV beer is a great one to age as it will continue to improve for years. This beer pairs well with braised beef dishes, steak, and dark chocolate desserts.

Whoa boy, really good. Candy sugar chocolate and spice, just a hint of Belgian-y funk. Alcohol burn but not as much as 11 percent predicts. This isnansippin beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz single bottle from Total Wine & More - Laguna Hills. Brown/black appearance with a lingering tan head. Aroma of fruity esters, roasted malt, licorice, molasses, candy sugar and specialty grains. Similar flavor, rich, dark, malty and fruity with mild Belgian notes. Moderately sweet and mildly bitter with a touch of alcoholic warmth. Full body with slight dry finish. An interesting sipper overall.

Sample at the brewpub. Dark brown color with a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of yeast, fruit and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of Belgian yeast, dark fruit and caramel malt. The finish is slightly syrupy with a fruity yeast aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

12 ounce bottle thanks to BeerInTummy. Pours very dark with foamy head. Chocolate and some dried fruit. Plum. Belgian yeast. Interesting.

Bottle. Pours near black with a beige head. Spicy yeasty base, faint roast, light fruity notes, and lingering yeasty notes. Balanced and fairly drinkable, but does;t really hit any high notes. Fine but forgettable.

12oz bottle brought back from California to drink at home: today is the day (2nd July 2015). Poured slowly into a Westmalle chalice: most likely the first time this beer has been treated to such a glass? Exceedingly dark body with a full tanned topping that sadly turned into a thin wisp and collar all too swiftly. Malts all the way here: coffee and dark chocolate coming through loud and clear. There are added bonuses like a yeasty touch and a spicy trace along with an earthy feel to the semi-sweet base. Body depth hides the alcohol well and there is enough going on in the beer to sit back and enjoy. This is a ’Smoking Jacket’ in front of a log fire sort of beer: lovely.

Taster at the brewery - dark purple - a fair balance of sweetness and acidity with this one - tart grape skin up front, followed by sweet raisin, fig, a touch of tamarind and treacle - but then it gets crazy boozy and messy and husky and things just fall apart - dang.

Pours a dark brown almost black with a decent head. Aroma is of a belgian yeast note upfront with dark fruits of some sort Nice floral note aswel. Taste follows the aroma well with a medium mouth feel. Great brew!

UPDATED: MAY 29, 2015 Aromas of banana, clove, esters, Belgian yeast, figs, prune juice, yeast funk, toffee, dark malts and raisins. Appears black with a thin brown foam top. Taste follows nose with big banana, coriander, clove, Belgian yeast funk, prune juice, toffee, hints of chocolate and brown malt. Overall, pretty good with a lot of pronounced character from the Belgian yeast.
