Sweet tasting malty brew, medium hop bitterness. Dirty Helen, legendary tavern owner, supposedly could outswear anybody in town. An American original, just like our tavern style brown ale.
ABV varies between 4.3% to 5.2%

This brew poured a large head of fine to large sized mostly lasting bubbles that left a good lacing and a golden amber colored body behind. It had a mild malt aroma. Its flavor was a bit on the hoppy side for a brown ale with only some malt notable. Its mouthfeel was smooth. Overall, its mouthfeel and flavor was unexpected for brown ale but was more typical of a pale ale.

One of my all time favorites here. I feel like it’s a great example of the style, and very drinkable.

12oz bottle. Pours a medium brown with a light tan head. Decent enough brown ale sampled while visiting Chicago and looking for low abv brews before running the marathon the next day ... in other words, carbo loading.

Pours a root beer reddish brown. Thick and lumpy foam head. Solid malt aroma with a bit of nut. Rich malt with a touch of chocolate. Slightly sticky mouthfeel. Nutty aftertaste.

Upper malty and horrible beer. Boozy and bitter. I don't taste any of the brown roasted malts. Garbage. Stay away. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle, from Kahn’s. Clear red, sort of brown color. Decent short ropes of lace. Thin tan head. Nutty, some milk chocolate, dark fruit. Some carmael, and mild roast. Moderate sweet taste. Light bitter. Light earthy hop. Light body. Crisp, kind of light carbonation, more slick finish. Sort of easy-drinking and refreshing. A decent brown ale. Good to wash my lunch down with, but when enjoyed on it’s own there’s a slight roughness noticeable, a hint of metallic.

Pours brown with a bit of tan head. I don’t like that there is no alcohol level on the bottle, but after 2 I’m thinking it’s closer to 5.2% than 4.3%. If you are going to name a beer after a very strong woman I’d expect it to be less sweet and have more alcohol, but not bad overall.

(draft @ Gino’s East - Chicago, IL) Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Light nutty and caramel aroma. Flavor is much the same. Light caramel with some toasted nuts and a lightly bitter finish.

Not bad overall. Had a dark brown color with an off white head and was fairly carbonated. Tasted of roasted nuts, caramel, and coffee. A bit of hops in the end. Decent.

Bottle, pours dark brown, small light carmel color head. Not much to the nose, a little coffee some malt. Coffee, malt and a bitter hop aftertaste, some carbonation. 6 ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle. Unfiltered deep brown body. Big, foamy off-white/beige head. Has the same overcarbonated, potentially infected taste and mouthfeel their other bottles have had. Tastes like it would have been a decent beer. If you can’t bottle without infection maybe you shouldn’t bottle.
