Pour on tap at the brewpub, dark brownish pour with white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, cocoa, hints of dark chocolate, hints of coffee, lots of cardamom comes through with a bit more spices as well. Taste is a mix of slight coffee, roast, chocolate, hints of slight cocoa, hints of caramel, lots of cardamom comes in making it very spicy, more spice notes as well, finishing fairly bitter, spicy. On tap at GTMW. Poured deep brown with a nice smoked beige head. The aroma was sweet and smoky, with a LOT of cardamom and vanilla over warm black malts.. interesting and enjoyable. The flavor found a hefty dose of smoked and chocolate malts at the core.. toasty cardamom all around, and it stuck on the long finish. On tap at GTMW 2012. Brown with ruby lowlights and a thin tan head. Aroma is strange, perhaps that’s the cardamom. Roasted and smoked malts and a bit of peat back it up. Undrinkable, on tap at BJ. Smell is like a magnum 44 permanent marker and then the taste is band aid and plastic cartons.. no good for me.

Pouring at GTMW 2012.
Dark black pour small soapy brown head. HUGE Cardamom initial nose almost blew out my ability to smell... after that adjustment I got a nice smoked meat w/ a touch of sweetness. Avg palate. Smoked taste first, surprisingly smoky hints of roast malt follow with touches of chocolate and lingering finish of cardamom. Growler. Pours dark brown black with an ever so soft (quick) tan head that dissipates to nothing, but a sliver of a collar. Aroma is awesome peat and burnt sugary malt with rye bread and a sweet/spicy finish. Taste is smooth and malty with some smoke and peat with more awesome sweet/spice rye in the finish. July 21, 2012 on tap at All Pints North. Dark brown pour with some head. Roasted malt, caramel and spice in the aroma and taste. Was drinking this while chatting with John himself for a good 15 minutes, awesome guy!
