on tap at barley john’s: didn’t see this brew listed on the site so i thought i would add it, since i really enjoyed it. wonderful aroma of dark malts and lots of other unknown goodness. flavor was top notch, with the dark malts in full power but just enough to not be overpowering. this is what an oatmeal stout should taste like.. just wish i could have it more often ;) detroiter (958) - Euphoria, Minnesota, USA - JAN 27, 2007
Pours a deep dark black, served with just under an inch of brown foam. Okay head retention and lacing. Solid roasted grain in the aroma, though not overwhelming or char-like.
More of the same roasted goodness in the flavor, followed by a husky graininess and some stone fruitiness. Fairly smooth and mellow - I would have believed that it was made with oatmeal. Medium body, moderate carbonation. The moutfeel has a bit of an oily smooth slickness to it that I really enjoyed. BDR (2534) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - MAY 31, 2007
Dar dark brown body with a creamy brown nose. Lots of oatmeal on the nose. Dry creamy oatmeal body with a smooth finish and a flash of malt sweetness on the finish. Nuffield (4171) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - AUG 29, 2006
Tap at brewpub in July 2006. Mostly black with a rich cream head. Dark cherry note with molasses, vanilla, roasted vegetables (swede and onions). Drinkable, rich, frothy. Moderate dry bitterness in finish. Skyview (6021) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - JUN 12, 2007
On tap at the Barley Johns brew pub, pours a dark, near opaque dark brown brew with a light brown head. Aroma of oatmeal, dark chocolate, some coffee character and a touch of vanilla. Taste is thick, creamy with a smooth finish and sweet aftertaste. Finish also has some dry grassy hops that quickly disappears.

Dark pour w/ a small thick tan head. Good ful creamy palate coated well. Aroma was fairly light I would have said mostly roasted malt with a hint of coffee and some dry oats. Flavor was lots of roast w/ out a real chocolate presence after some nice sweet grains that lingered in the aftertaste. A very nice beer. Stine (1780) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - APR 11, 2007
Black but partially unconvincing like cola. Aromas of heavy cream, cinnamon and a well rounded medium roast coffee. Nothing too brash. Some vanilla granola flavor with touches of caramelized sugar. Finely roasted malt character throughout, flashes of red fruits. Subtle palate that stops just short of powerful in the most perfect, amiable way. Strikingly richer than last year’s, I think, but still insanely drinkable. Cheers, John, again. hopscotch (11078) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 13, 2007
Growler... Pitch black ale with a small, creamy, light brown head. Nice retention. Ground coffee, cocoa nose with an intoxicating undertone of Madagascar vanilla beans. The acrid, burnt flavor melds sweet caramel and black malt with citric, blasphemously bitter hops... melted dark chocolate, dark cherry madness. Medium to full-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and prickly carbonation. Burnt, dry, grassy finish. Thanks go out to robertsreality for providing the growler! 13mikey (503) - New Hope, Minnesota, USA - OCT 26, 2009
On tap at Barley John’s. Black in color, foamy tan head. Slight chocolate aroma. Creamy chocolate flavor, subtle pleasant finish. jake65 (3689) - Meridian, Idaho, USA - OCT 28, 2009
Tap @ Brewpub: Dark brown with a small, dense tan head. Mild nose of roast and cocoa. The taste is rich with the oats, a nice amount of roasted malt, and a subtle chocolate presence. Very well balanced.
