Pours clear amber with a touch of orange. 2-finger off-white head. Caramel malt aroma, with a light citrus note underneath. Medium body. Somewhat watery, but with some creaminess to the finish. Nutty malt flavor with some citrus hops bitterness underneath. Tonkun (1296) - New Jersey, USA - MAR 14, 2015
Bottle. Copper pour with half a finger of white head that dissipated relatively quickly. Nuts, coffee, vanilla, toffee, rye. Nice aroma. Medium body. Nutty, coffee, oily and slightly acidic. Nice danlo (3128) - Darlington, Durham, ENGLAND - JUN 29, 2013
330ml bottle. Bright golden-copper colour, thin white foam head and aroma of caramel, toffee, slightly roasted & nutty. Taste is sweetish, malt, toffee, with earthy nutty notes and a light citrus bitterness. Smooth mouth feel, light bodied, soft carbonation, dry finish. Quite OK. Pours a brown colour with a white head. Aroma is malty, caramel, toffee and hints of nuts. Taste is medium sweet leading to a lightly bitter finish. Decent. Jimthechap (2064) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 26, 2013
It certainly is a looker this one. Sassy copper colour with a rocky off-white head and plenty of coarse sparkle. The aroma is of tart tatin - caramelised sugars, peachy goodness and grated citrus rind, maybe even a touch of Curacao. Some slight nuttiness present there. It is coarse and prickly in the mouth at first and then sweetish and juicy with just a mention of citrus astringency. It fades a little as it hasn’t much bitterness to carry the flavour toward a finish. Instead it is slightly puckering on the sides of the touch, suggesting acidity and that’s the way it ends. As a critical tour de force it isn’t a show stopper. As a tasty wee quaffer it is a success. Likeable enough.

Pours a dark copper color with a fair head that fades to some lacing. Aroma of malt, some nuttiness, with a bit of toffee. Taste of roasted malt and nut with just abit of sweetness. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Fairly moderate body, smooth with a nice bit character. Nothing overwhelming but nice just the same. Enjoyable beer. mkel07 (6195) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - JAN 3, 2013
330ml bottle from BWS. Copper brown to ruby red in colour with a head that stands for a while. Nutty biscuit malt aroma is okay. The flavour is what really gets this beer across the line. Nutty caramel flavour with a full rich mouthfeel. Maris (1553) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - OCT 31, 2012
From a 330ml bottle on 31/10/2012. Bottle labelled Baron’s Black Wattle Original Ale, ABV listed as 5.2%, not 5.8%. Pours a clear amber with almost no head. Has a slight caramel malt aroma. There is more to the flavour, with caramel and toffee malt up front, some mild hops, and a curious spiciness, which I assume is the wattle seed. Not bad, but not particularly notable.
